Pretty sure that is the article that was in the Washington Post.

    Edit - YUP. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/drag-queens-speech-fuels-irish-gay-rights-debate/2014/02/11/f53175be-9318-11e3-b3f7-f5107432ca45_story.html

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Wow that is ironic !! The about of time Bill O'Reilly goes on about how is "Catholic of Irish decent" on there I thought they would be matches made in heaven.

Being a bit historical here, but I remember reading about the Stonewall riots, it was the drag Queens who were one of the people who kicked it off, apparently there is a report of one of them smacking a cop with their stiletto heel, kinda apt for this

I thought it was alright! For a short article, like...? No?!

Yes, good article. Actually far closer to the truth than a lot of Irish papers. Just wonderful to see it published by an organisation as right-wing and anti-just-about-everything as Fox News.

Irish Times makes video about support for Team Panti which is locked in battle with one of their columnists.

My irony meter can't take much more.

Ah right. Yeah, I just read it in the WP and it didn't make me cringe at all. Point taken about Pox News.

Oh wow....ok. Before I watch this, I predict it will be a joyless happy-clappy "we're so proud of our gays at RTE" cringe fest, using the same slightly frantic sounding woman that appears in all their upbeat stuff, in a kind of desperate response to claw back an ounce of credibility in the light of the FABULOUS Channel 4 "good luck gays on gay mountain" for Sochi. Amirite?

    Nope.

What made me think RTE when I clearly saw Irish Times? Hmmm.

Buzz O'Neill just shared this on facebook. Nice one. Might find out how they were meant to go about taking a decision about license fee money soon enough.

Joint Committee on Transport and Communications

    Dear Buzz,

Please be advised that your recent correspondence was noted by the Members of the above Committee at its meeting held last Wednesday 5th of February. The Committee agreed to write to Mr Noel Curran, Director General, RTE, requesting that he outline, in writing, the processes or protocols RTE follows when making decisions in relation to paying compensation to complainants.

    Kind regards,

Actually me and herself were having a discussion about how Ireland could do with a Channel 4 - not it's current 'icky bodies on benefits in crap location location locations at a fat wedding' incarnation but as it was in the 80s when it was a genuine alternative.

*gazes into the past fondly remembering their queer film seasons with the wee triangle in the corner they were told they had to include as a 'warning' but was really a sign of a must watch programme.*

Yes, when it actually WAS being risky. Wouldn't it be lovely? TG4 is closest, but is unfortunately in Irish (mostly). When it's a bilingual programme, they do a decent job. Saw a great documentary about the Australian Aboriginals having their children stolen from them, often half Irish children. We managed to export our cultural problems in entirety, from the Catholic schools to the Magdeline laundry model and also the Irish men unable/unwilling to marry their aboriginal women.

But I'm derailing the thread now :o

Will they have the 'camera on the front of the speeding train' ad breaks, when they couldn't sell enough ads?
That used to be mad after a few funny cigs*

*That my friend gave me, never knew what was in them, at all, at all, at all.

Re JW, some-one posted (somewhere) that he and B did not appear in print in their usual slots a few days ago. T'is nice of Fox News to take a "copy" of Panti and put it up on their network, the publicity can't but help Panti get justice. Imagine the look's on some of the Fox-newscasters faces if they are told to speak out live nationwide publicizing Panti (and Irish homophobia) in the US. imagine the effect if it's picked up on in NYC coming up to St Paddy's Day and it's parade.

Re NYC and Stonewall, US LGBT history record's that it was the Bostonians who led the charge, a year or two before the Stonewall incidents. @obliq: I still like the original QAF, and the original Aidan ;-).

Probably one where everybody's singing a Gilbert & Sullivan musical right the way through.

Ooo ooo, I know the one you mean!! *cough.cough* *tuning.note.hrrrrmmmm*
To sit in solemn silence in a dull, dark dock,
In a pestilential prison with a life-long lock
Awaiting the sensation of a short, sharp shock
From a cheap and chippy chopper on a big, black block.

Sounds about right as a happy ending to this whole Iona debacle?

An american academic writes a book about hinduism; hindu campaigners claim that the book is filled with heresies and that they're feeling dreadfully offended. So on foot of a criminal case brought by the campaigners, Penguin India agrees to destroy the book at its own expense and publicly announce that "it respects all religions worldwide"

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-26133291

The alleged agreeement between the campaigners and Penguin is here.
