Pardon the stupid question but....why would someone want one of these? What can you do with it?

You'll be grand as long as it's from an authorised HP reseller. You can get a euro claim form from the email address on the form.

I got it from here: http://www.serversplus.com/servers/tower_servers/hp_tower_servers/704941-421

its the one without the 3 year warranty, as the one with the 3 year warranty went up in price. So this is £97.94 after the £100 rebate.

Was free UK delivery to parcel motel too (with their free delivery code), and it fit in the large locker in parcel motel

looks like its out of stock now tho

    From HUKD thread
More stock due into UK resellers from Monday 10/02/14

Not sure what the prices are going to be like though

does anyone know if you can just email in the rebate form with a copy of the invoice, or do you have to post it?

and for the cheque they post to you, do you need to be at home to sign for the delivery of it if its registered mail?

For people who have it running linux and in a hard to access place, you get the serial number from the command line using the following:
    sudo dmidecode -t system

If it's not on the form, you'll find it by searching this thread.

Yes, then tore my hair out trying to get anything other than just network file services running reliably, and gave up and bought a Synology NAS instead :)

    Want to buy one? :D

I put UnRaid - it was reasonably easy.

The filesharing stuff in FreeNAS wasn't really the problem, apart from me struggling with Samba permissions which are still a mystery to me. It was the crappy, bug-ridden plugins that decided it for me.

    unraid ftw.

I have FreeNas running on mine, with CouchPotato, SickBeard , Transmission, miniDLNA and Firefly. It was finicky to get running and every few months it will crash for no reason, but the majority of the time it is pretty stable.

Don't know if ye've seen this but HP are gonna start charging for firmware updates etc if you don't have a valid warranty or care pack. This will apply to all of our Microservers as well.

So the way that will work is someone with warranty/support pack can get the update file and put it somewhere for others to get it?

Many of us are running custom firmware for Port Multiplier and full SATA 2 support anyway!

I have been trying to get my heard around these things for a while, but just wondering if these (and the process of getting content to your media folder) any good / worth the cost and effort (compared to standard torrent sites and manually downloading what you want to see)?

We have to be careful what we say here and not venture into any strange territory!

I use an rss feed from showrss.info for TV shows, plugged into Qbittorrent which is just set to grab everything from the RSS feed as it comes, I then have sickbear monitoring the completed folder, so it will automatically move and rename the file into the proper position on my media folder. I think it works great. It works better for me than using sickbeard with sab did

Maybe, how much you asking? (PM me maybe not to derail the thread)

How much ram is in it and are you running ZFS? The main reason I'd run FN is for ZFS but its a ram whore.

I find sickbeard very handy, it gets the shows I like and then moves them to the right folder. Couchpotato is less useful, as there are more fakes etc, so I mainly use it as reminder list of films I would like and when they are available.

Its got 4 GB RAM, I've the older N36. I do have all the drives formatted to ZFS, but I'm probably not doing it right.

Its probably just ram starved if you have more than a couple TB in there. AFAIK if it runs out of memory it'll crash out. Thats the one big con with freenas.

I just bought one from Servers Plus

I had to call them to order as there was a problem doing it online. The guy said that 500 just came in to stock. The price was €245 and I should get €120 cashback. I decided not to get the 3 year warranty as I am not sure if it can be used when ordering from the UK. Anyway, it should be delivered via Parcel Motel in the next couple of days.

It doesn't have much free but is usually fine, I think there is 3.5tb in it, but was hoping to add more, so I'll have to take that into consideration, thanks.
