I still hope there can be something done and that the 2 extra dates will be cancelled, teach the money men a thing or two about people

If I miss Garth Brooks because of the residents I will make it my mission to do as much p*ssing in gardens in the croke park area as possible and Im up in croke park a few times a year usually.

It would be a disgrace to cancel two nights and disappoint 160 thousand people because of a few whiney residents.

for parking, several times he has come home from work on concert and match days to find he can't park outside his house because match/concert goers have filled the street. This is half a mile away so can only guess how bad it is on the streets directly surrounding the venue.

I used to rent on Clonliffe Rd which for those who don't know is right behind Hill 16 and parking was never an issue.

It's far better to be inside the cordon then outside it. From early morning on match days and concerts the cordon will be set up and you need your pass to drive in

    Works pretty well :)

Biggest issue I ever had as a resident wasn't the noise, it was when they installed the floodlights and they left them blazing on for hours every evening for testing. Why couldn't test during daytime?? Ha, once they switched them and knocked out the power for Drumcondra up as far as St Pats! :D That's all sorted now though.

    http://www.her.ie/entertainment/if-tomorrow-never-comes-croke-park-residents-to-seek-concert-injunctions/

I spotted the above on facebook this morning and thought it might be worth a discussion.

As Garth Brooks adds a fifth date to his run of concerts in Croke Park, it seems the residents have decided to try and stop any concerts being played there again.

I'm a little bit torn on this one myself. While I certainly do understand the inconvience caused to residents in the area I also don't like the whole not-in-my-backyward attitude that people in this country are so fond of.

Surely those residents knew what they were getting into when buying their homes?

You'd think it was the Swedish House Mafia or a group/artist of that nature who were playing five nights, not Garth Brooks. It's not like the people going to his concerts are going to be drunks and junkies hell bent on violence.

I personally feel an outright ban is a little over the top.

In all honesty if we were to start banning concerts etc from every place they weren't wanted we never have concerts played at all.

Should we ban concerts completely from Croker or would stiffer regulations be enough?

I used to rent a house in the shadow of Croake Park, I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I moved in. It was the first year of the GAA back door rule so there were more matches than usual in Croake Park.

Thousands of people passed our front door twice a day on a Saturday and Sunday. I also had to forget about driving anywhere as the roads leading down into the avenue were blocked off for crowd control purposes.

I didn't get a red cent, nor match ticket from GAA for any inconvenience caused

I'm trying to word a reply to this that attacks the post and not the poster but I'm failing.
I think that I may just quote the post as my signature so that it constantly pops up for others to see the quality of argument, discussion and debate used.

The levels of "entitlement" being displayed throughout this thread are incredible. The posts have moved from unreasonable through moronic and finally to seriously distasteful.

While most likely an idle threat it demonstrates how annoyed I would be if I were to miss the concert.

You talk about levels of entitlement. I paid for a ticket so yes I am entitled to see the concert, the most entitlement being shown is by residents who think they should be able to control what happens on a public street and in a stadium that they have absolutely no say over.

Did you not pay for a ticket for a concert that is subject to approval??

Eh, actually, you bought a ticket for a concert which is 'subject to license', so I bet if you look at the fine print you'll find you are not yet entitled to see that concert.
The residents of the area around Croke Park are entitled to the same as residents of every other area, including where you live. Surely that involves some modicum of peace and protection from people like you who would piss in their gardens.

The residents should open up their houses and charge €1 for the use of the toilets. Everyone's a winner!

As regards the five nights let everyone hit off for the courts and let the Judges decide whether five concerts should be allowed or not and establish the legality of any "agreement"

God, no! Can you imagine the sh1te they'd make of the floors with their cowboy boots and spurs and dragging slurry in all over the place.

The only reason p*ssing in a garden has been suggested is as a retaliation to missing out on a concert.

They have peace the other 330 days of the year, that's allowing a very generous 35 days of events. I would say in reality there will be maybe 20 very busy days in the year in Croke park and if you live near a stadium that's what you have to put up with for the convenience of living in a city centre and near to a stadium.

People from the country have to pay to travel, pay for accommodation etc etc to get to an event its on these peoples door step.

I read a post pages back from a user against these concerts and it was something like 'maybe I should go down to the promoters and sh1t about in his garden and see if they like it'.

So this is your answer? Do you usually break the law when you don't get your own way?

I did say the statement was more showing how angry getting a concert cancelled would make me, so angry that I would feel like getting my own back rather than actually doing it, though if I was angry enough...

Also its a pretty harmless revenge suggestion in all fairness.

which concert have you a ticket for out of interest?

Monday night, so one of the two nights that are being suggested to be cancelled by some people.

I actually don't know why I'm bothering with this conversation though as there is zero chance of any night being cancelled. The residents will either be ignored or paid off or a bit of both and all 5 dates will go ahead.

I reckon cancelling the 2 added dates is fair enough at this stage . It's a good compromise for all involved .

Except for those that have tickets for those days and will lose money.

I would assume some form of compensation for them would be offered?

Even if they bought tickets that is subject to licence that was not subsequently received?
why would you assume compensation would be offered?

I do agree with Nox though that this wont happen.

It'll be a national embarrassment if they get cancelled. People coming from all over the world for these concerts.

Well if the promoters are going to cancel the dates then surely they would have to compensate the people who paid somehow?

Are you not entitled to a refund for something which you paid for that was then cancelled?

Or is the case that only the local residents should be entitled to any money in all this?

The residents aren't entitled to any money.

If the concerts were cancelled, people who bought tickets would get a refund. I'm sure it's in the small print.
