Just put it in a bag and put the bag in water. It'll defrost in no time.

Erra, it was kinda late when I got home from work anyway so I had no interest in trying to defrost it!

    This evening'll be graaand!

Where do people keep their potted herbs in this weather? My chives are slowly taking over the kitchen.

Question for you cooking geniuses! DIY Indian tonight, just chicken, plenty of Indian herbs and spices, chick peas and tin of chopped tomatoes.. However by the time the whole thing was cooked it was completely unsaucy, delicious but I would prefer lots of gravy. I added what I thought to be sufficient water and didn't want to completely dilute the flavours.. Any suggestion?

Either add more water, or stock, or cook with a lid on to reduce evaporation.

I feel like a sweet sticky meaty dish. Steak pieces. What else would I need? Don't want it like chili hot, or have it too spicey like a curry. I'm stuck for what to cook. Who can suggest something nice?

Don't know if this would work with beef; I've made it with pork and chicken and it is deelicious - sticky, sweet and tasty:

Nope! But she and I have very similar taste in food so it'll be delish anyway :)

    And thanks!

I got some lamb shanks today, I'm going to try the recipe from the slow cooker thread. My slow cooker is a little underused. Was a bit taken aback by the price of them though (20 euro for 4). I hope they turn out ok!

Does anyone here use Organ products? Trying to find their gravy mix in Dublin.

I have a bottle of red wine and a kilo of beef. I'm thinking of making a beef bourgignon or something but... Am I the only one who struggles to sacrifice bottles of wine to cooking when it could be drank?! :o

No I'm guilty of that too, especially when I know that you should use good wine (or as good as you can justify using) when cooking. :)

Found some Irish beef in my local tesco (in London) so I think a nice Slow cooker stew is on the cards. Carrots, onions, chickpeas, lardons and lentils cooked with stock and red wine. Omnomnoms!! :D

Folks - someone posted a pic of a wonderful looking cake just over a week ago & for the life of me I can't find it now. It was a chocolate cake with the top divided into six sections - each with a different topping of sweets.

Can anyone remember who posted it or provide a link? My youngest lad saw it, so it was definitely posted by last Saturday or Sunday (25th/26th Jan), & now he would like it for his birthday this weekend coming.

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

I know this isn't Cakes & Bakes, but I just thought I'd show you the cake we ended up with for HB Jr II's birthday...

    293156.png

Mrs Billy made a slab of chocolate fudge cake & covered it in chocolate fondant, then let the 2 boys decorate it.
We all had the same thought that the sections wouldn't allow for each slice to have a sample of each sweet.
    I think they did a great job. * Proud Dad * :)

Ah no, they did a great job. Can't wait to do this type of stuff when my little boy is old enough.

Someone else mentioned Keith Floyd. I think his key to successful cooking with wine was equal quantities in the food and the cook!

    Jaypers that cake looks amazing!

Myself and himself went out for dinner this weekend, we went to a highly recommended Italian place. Wine was lovely, starter was lovely but my oxtail ravioli was riddled with bones. Bones! I had to send it back sadly.

In fairness the staff were great and gave us free cheesecake and limoncello, can't argue with that.

I once gave someone a gift of an apron that said "When the recipe says 'add wine', one must never ask 'to what?'".
