Can YOU smoke eCigs in your local pub/restaurant?

I went to a pub/restaurant in Dublin last weekend. I am not going to name it. So don't ask! Just for now anyway.

My OH has quit cigs and uses the VIP eCigs. When we went to the Pub side of the place after dinner, out came the eCig (not in the restaurant), the barman asked not to use them. Owners Policy.

This was a eCig with the blue light, so there would be no confusion as to whether it was a REAL cig or not.

No problem, no e CIG used, we are not arguers! and then after one drink we went home.

So I just wondered what is your experience. Thanks.

    Yes I can and have.
I think this question has been asked and answered a few times in Ecigs forum (with names of establishments).

Etiquette re., e-cigs is a grey area...rule of thumb is to inquire whether it would be a problem or not, a simple courtesy to avoid aggravation for both parties.

Your question might be best suited here...http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=1497

Thanks folks, never thought to check the ECig forum. Doh!

    Thanks for the heads up.

I don't see why they can't be used if they don't cause the stink normal cigarettes do.

It would be nice if some restaurants banned mobile phones....

Does eCigs have the same 2nd hand smoke as proper fags. Like when you puff out that blue chemical mist out of your mouth, does it contain nicotine which will infect your fellow pub goers.

    What restaurant was it?

It's not even that. Some people just can't relax without a bloody phone in their hand. I've seen people just flick aimlessly in their settings or whatever to look busy. I'm embarrassed for them.

    No. It's Vapour, not smoke.

Nicotine actually is a pretty harmless drug, much like caffiene.

The problem with smoking is the way the nicotine is taken in.

    Vaping is pretty harmless.

Apart from telling you it was 'owners policy' did he give any other reason as to why?

I use mine everywhere. In work, on the train, in hotels, in bars etc. Usually if there's other people around I'll hold it in and the vapour isn't visible when I exhale.

Are there any studies proving this?

The aul e cigs are great for using in Hospital as well, when you are too sick/sore to get out of bed:)

3G and 4G. What do you propose they do about that?

I've never been stopped from vaping anywhere. I don't do it in restaurants, but happily vape in pubs/clubs/buses/hotel rooms. Never had an issue, thankfully.

Ultimately it's down to the establishment and their own policies. I wouldn't have any issue with being asked not to vape somewhere.

I don't know much about them, but is there a smell off some of them?

No he didn't. He was very cool about it, but the policy was no vaping/eCigs in the bar. We would not overrule him and get him into any trouble. That was the policy, so we observed it. As you do.

My post was to ask about other peoples experience in pubs and coffee shops and the like.

I had a look at the eCig forum, but they are all into their juices, lol.! Will search that forum later.

And I have to agree that mobile phones are SOO much more anti social in a bar with friends than an eCig. Jeez some people playing with their devices! And checking them every minute. Drives me nuts.

but maybe they are a bit insecure, can't keep up a convo, la la la.

Don't know, but at a guess, I'd say too much alcohol is far more dangerous for many reasons.

Do you ask imbibers if their consumption is dangerous? They might punch you or knock you out, or get sick, or crash a car, or cause mayhem.

But vapour? Not sure if it's up there really.

You taking about the people using eCigs, or the vapour itself? :)

I haven't seen anything to suggest that these things are bad for you.

As Vaping is still a new thing, there's no long term studies as of yet to determine the effects of long term usage.

Personally, I'm happy to continue with it. Can't see any harm in it really.

Has to be better than smoking.

Well it's enough to know about the vapour :P I just remember people being asked to stop using what I thought were eCigs in different places I worked, but in fairness there was a fairly strong and distinct smell off the ecigs

Maybe there was, for you, but honestly, the ones my OH uses have no smell, unless my smellers arent working right! I don't detect any smell, in comparison with real cigarettes, ugh.... There is no comparison.
