The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service has declared a major incident after up to 60 young people attending a concert in Belfast became ill.

A doctor and several ambulances are at the scene of the Odyssey Arena.

A number of people have been taken to hospitals across Belfast to be treated for the effects of drugs and alcohol.

They had been attending a dance event headlined by Dutch DJ Hardwell.

Wonder WTF is going here this evening?

Emergency services have declared a 'major incident' with scores of people being treated at the scene, and doctors on standby in several hospitals.
A major incident has been declared by emergency services dealing with young people at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

Both the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Ulster Hospital have declared a major incident.

It is understood ambulance workers have treated around 60 people, most of whom were dealt with at the scene.

An ambulance spokesman said they are dealing with casualties believed to be suffering ill-effects of alcohol and drugs, at varying levels of consciousness.

A spokesperson for the South Eastern Trust said they were aware of an incident involving a bus at the Odyssey, where DJ Hardwell is scheduled to perform.

It is understood doors to the over 16s event opened at 6.30pm.

The bit that confuses me the most though, the concert is still ongoing.

    Bizarre.

Could the incident involve those who were refused entry?

The concert is for over 16's and finishes at 11pm

I don't think legalisation would stop this stuff happening. It's due to youngsters throwing drugs into themselves in a hurry so they're 'buzzing' for the concert.

Sorry Bumper, have to go with Woolly on this, legalisation all the way, especially weed!! If it was regulated half this sh*te wouldn't happen. All sorts of crap is being sold on the black market at the moment, you don't know what you're getting.

Presumably the 16's comment relates to underagers necking pills. How many dealers ask for ID? If it is indeed a dodgy batch then yes, legalising it would stop this

Teenage scum take drugs, scum cant hack it, scum gets sick.

Hopefully the law deals with them and doesn't just ignore it.

Just like they'd do with alcohol. Teenagers will always find means, especially around the 15/16 range... legalizing would at least ensure that pills which they will get their hands on if they try hard enough are safe and won't lead to fatal consequences.

Legalizing every (recreational) drug is not the answer. Lets say they do legalize it tomorrow how much do you think a pill will cost? €1? €5? €10? The government will want their tax take which would be a LARGE % of the cost. Just like cigarettes you would get smugglers who would bring in cheap knock offs and sell for a a tiny cost of the real thing. The only problem now is kids think that the tabs they are buying are the real deal and safe because the government has legalized it. You wouldn't see less incidents like tonight you would see more.

Yeah but they don't know what they are throwing into themselves. I think that's the main problem....

Exactly, legalisation won't stop youngsters from abusing drugs, and it won't stop others from mixing them dangerously with alcohol.

But it would stop the drugs themselves being as dangerous

Seriously? I may not agree with drug taking but tarring them as scum seems a tad over the top tbh.
