The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service has declared a major incident after up to 60 young people attending a concert in Belfast became ill.

A doctor and several ambulances are at the scene of the Odyssey Arena.

A number of people have been taken to hospitals across Belfast to be treated for the effects of drugs and alcohol.

They had been attending a dance event headlined by Dutch DJ Hardwell.

    Bad Drugs in Belfast obviously

Wonder WTF is going here this evening?

Emergency services have declared a 'major incident' with scores of people being treated at the scene, and doctors on standby in several hospitals.
A major incident has been declared by emergency services dealing with young people at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

Both the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and the Ulster Hospital have declared a major incident.

It is understood ambulance workers have treated around 60 people, most of whom were dealt with at the scene.

An ambulance spokesman said they are dealing with casualties believed to be suffering ill-effects of alcohol and drugs, at varying levels of consciousness.

A spokesperson for the South Eastern Trust said they were aware of an incident involving a bus at the Odyssey, where DJ Hardwell is scheduled to perform.

It is understood doors to the over 16s event opened at 6.30pm.

The bit that confuses me the most though, the concert is still ongoing.

    Bizarre.

The concert is for over 16's and finishes at 11pm

I don't think legalisation would stop this stuff happening. It's due to youngsters throwing drugs into themselves in a hurry so they're 'buzzing' for the concert.

Sorry Bumper, have to go with Woolly on this, legalisation all the way, especially weed!! If it was regulated half this sh*te wouldn't happen. All sorts of crap is being sold on the black market at the moment, you don't know what you're getting.

Presumably the 16's comment relates to underagers necking pills. How many dealers ask for ID? If it is indeed a dodgy batch then yes, legalising it would stop this

Teenage scum take drugs, scum cant hack it, scum gets sick.

Hopefully the law deals with them and doesn't just ignore it.

Just like they'd do with alcohol. Teenagers will always find means, especially around the 15/16 range... legalizing would at least ensure that pills which they will get their hands on if they try hard enough are safe and won't lead to fatal consequences.

Legalizing every (recreational) drug is not the answer. Lets say they do legalize it tomorrow how much do you think a pill will cost? €1? €5? €10? The government will want their tax take which would be a LARGE % of the cost. Just like cigarettes you would get smugglers who would bring in cheap knock offs and sell for a a tiny cost of the real thing. The only problem now is kids think that the tabs they are buying are the real deal and safe because the government has legalized it. You wouldn't see less incidents like tonight you would see more.

Exactly, legalisation won't stop youngsters from abusing drugs, and it won't stop others from mixing them dangerously with alcohol.

Weed? Legalize it tomorrow (I don't smoke it but I believe it to be more beneficial than harmful) but ecstasy is another story as it's a mix of chemicals and I understand you would pay more but kids will think one pill for €10 or 4 pills for €10?

You're assuming that it's down to a bad batch and not just people overdoing it. Why does the discussion automatically need to be about legalisation anyway? Why not about the lack responsibility which is evident at events like this in general?

1st point, what exactly can be done to any of these Kids by Law?

Hope you dont have teenagers as the majority of teenagers these days have tried drugs (Im counting drink as its as bad as many of these) whether you want to believe it or not is your own issue, but to call everyone who takes drugs scum means that id say 90% of Ireland is scum.

Explain how all of these people are scum exactly? Where they behaving violently? I'd be more inclined to say those who take advantage of young people and put dodgy **** that can kill people are the scum... why don't you attack them?

Didn't suggest every drug for a start. I'm not a pricing expert, it will priced on market value... They would be safe, because they'd be verified and there would be a source.... I disagree, you would certainly see less as you would have an option to buy from a reputable source, choice is key here.

It wouldn't, but it would help narrow the cases of bad batches, which is far more fatal than mixing pills with drink which happens all the time. It's not the mixing of the two that can be lethal, it's all the **** mixed in with the MDMA that's the problem.

    Everything contains chemicals.

Unless you're trying to make the flawed argument that "natural" chemicals good, "artificial" chemicals bad?

Well sixty people getting ill at one electronic music event would suggest as much. Hopefully not though. Obviously everyone's responsible for themselves, but at the end of the day its just young people out enjoying themselves, them having to buy dodgy and illegal pills helps nobody

Of course not, alcohol and tobacco do serious damage too but will never be banned as government NEEDS the tax € from them to survive. What I am saying is that if anyone thinks that legalizing ecstasy will stop these kind of Incidents then they are being naive. Dealers will always sell them cheaper (see Moore st for knock off cigs and tobacco) and kids with less money will buy them!

Pretty sure if you legalised it, it would be cheaper. Though I'd love to know your source for 4 pills for 10 quid :pac:
