The first video has Garda members that look like RSU, but there isn't any in Dublin, are these just unlucky detectives?

    That's the public order unit

There is a Detective/Plainclothes Garda in the second video, unrelated though.

Certainly wouldn't notice it at first glance, side mirrors tucked in, it blends in well. Does the unmarked part well, but performance-wise we're still only talking about a 1.6 Diesel family car which is very disappointing.

What sort of car would you consider an ideal Garda car in terms of performance???

A high performance sports model, preferably petrol (2, 2.5, 3, 3.5L), built for speed with proper handling. Something like an Audi S4, RS4 or BMW M3, that can actually keep up in a pursuit and train drivers accordingly. Of course, that's never going to happen.

To be fair I think traffic cars should all be like those and perhaps a few normal patrol cars in urban areas that can be called upon should a pursuit situation occur.
My opinion on that particular car is that it is too small for Garda work, I am just trying to imagine 2 typical Gardai in the back of that with a prisoner :D.
Am I right in thinking that Hyundai make a bigger car?

The unmarked Hyundai that POGAN posted is an i30 Tourer, there is a larger saloon car (i40) and a larger estate car (i40 Tourer).
i30 is like a Ford Focus, i40 is like a Ford Mondeo.

Skoda Octavia Vrs both petrol and diesel. I've never been in a Vrs but have been in a Golf GTi and by god they can quickly move.

I wouldn't really think it would be in anyway practical to run an M3 or Rs4 as a patrol car, maintenance would be too big of an issue and cost on something like that. For ware and tear items like pads and discs your talking big bucks alone.

Something like the Octavia would be ideal as a traffic car - or indeed something Audi shaped with Quattro.

I wonder can a 177 2.0 TDI audi be got with Quattro???.

Your never going to run a whole fleet of them - but the thing with the likes of VAG is that they have a massive selection of cars and commercials available.

So you can have anything from a Golf 1.6 tdi - right through Caddy vans, Octavia Vrs, Audis with Quattro - right up the a Crafter van.

Problem with going Toyota or Hyundai - is that they really don't have the range of vehicles for the full fleet requirements.

Which is fine if you just say - okay - we will have the regular cars from Toyota/Hyundai - and we will have a separate tender for traffic cars and specialist units.

But when you have Avensis estates on traffic - it does raise questions about how we see traffic corps, its future development - and the concept of having the right tool for the job.

Should look at Uk model - in terms of Roads policing - in terms of planning Traffic Corps for the future.

And train traffic corps up accordingly - and give them the necessary tools.

That's completely off topic - and im just day dreaming anyway :(

It's bodywork repair not mechanical repair. Not every dealer would have that facility and would have to outsource the work.

Nice car indeed, reg plate check shows it's a Titanium 2.0 TDCi, not too shabby. Very hard to spot that, well lit up with blue/red lights.
