Am I reading this right? Kids of gay parents potentially being bullied because they have two daddies, as a reason to disallow gay marriage?

Barrels are being scraped right through to their last thread

Should never ever be a reason to disallow gay marriage or adoption but the potential bullying is an issue discussed by gay couples

Remember a dutch gay celeb talking about he was worried because adopting a black child from the states being brought up by two gay men would make his child vulnerable to bullying and it really bothered him ... A view shared by more gay couples

Not sure whether to put this here or in the Waters thread:

Paul Murphy is another politician willing to speak out about this injustice. (I think he may be covered against lawsuits by EU Parliamentary Privilege.)

In other news, Graham Norton has offered support to Panti:
    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/graham-norton-offers-support-to-panti-bliss-as-rte-homophobe-row-rumbles-on-29975142.html

And the Huffington Post is covering the controversy:
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/03/panti-noble-oppression_n_4717909.html?utm_hp_ref=gay-voices

This is going international - I don't think Iona and Waters can sue everyone involved!
Nothing at all to do with an upcoming election of course (although I 100% agree with what he said)

Jayzuz... that is pathetic on many levels. How on Earth did you (if you did) resist the urge to slap a few IQ points into the genius who came up with that?

I spent a lot of time suppressing the urge to slap people alright, and not just over the nicknames.

Well done on bringing international attention to the issue of gay rights and homophobia in Ireland, Iona Institute and John Waters. Should have seen the whole "libril agenda" stuff was actually just a clever ruse.

A lot of my American gay friends have picked up the story and are talking about it on facebook. It's gaining a lot of traction.

Saw Derren Brown mention it yesterday too.

    Again,
I can't help but think that if Iona and Waters had done nothing after the Saturday Night show,

    - We wouldn't be talking about this
    - The media wouldn't have picked up on it...including over sea's
    - Waters would still have his job in the BAI
    - TD's and MEP's wouldn't be directing comments against Iona n Co
    - RTE would have been 85k better off

There was one linked to by the Professor who wrote that last piece
    http://www.thepublicdiscourse.com/2012/06/5640/

According to wikipedia the Witherspoon "institute":

Therefore they are not a valid source of information on this issue, because they are going to only release information biased towards the outcomes they want to achieve, i.e. the maintenance and eventual increase of homophobia and misogyny.

Furthermore the article goes on to say that they were the people behind the Regnerus "study", so we know they are willing to lie, skew the data and manipulate evidence to further their homophobic and misogynistic agenda.

    Article

You would have to wonder if the Irish Times are aware how their reputation (such as it is) is being affected by the fact that they more or less pay Iona people to put Iona propaganda into their newspaper.

That's assuming that the Irish Times management even cares, they don't give the impression that it bothers them much at all.

With respect to Waters, I recall reading somewhere -- here? -- that the previous editor, Geraldine Kennedy, tried to get rid of him, but Waters threatened legal action, so he was retained. Would be interesting to be able to confirm that story one way or the other.

Waters is excellent clickbait, but that's all he is.

yeah they really should be aware of it though,

Outside of Waters I've always liked the Irish times, but their intentional misrepresentation of the protest numbers at the weekend as well as allowing hatred to be published like they do does put me off.

To be fair, they did publish a great piece from Fintan O'Toole on the subject today: http://www.irishtimes.com/news/social-affairs/full-equality-often-has-to-wait-while-mainstream-opinion-catches-up-1.1678007

    A Conservative think tank!

Now there's the very definition of oxymoron.

Not a bad article by Fintan O'Toole. However the Iona crew write articles which are ridiculously conservative rather than thought provoking.

I do like the term "Ionanism" for JW's and BO'B's writings though :pac:

Seems some one forgot to the the EU that the word 'homophobia' is banned...oopsie.

“Homophobia must not be tolerated in Europe any more” – EU votes to protect LGBTI rights

I call it "The Most Least Interesting Man in the World"

The police stop and question him... over unpaid parking fines.

His beard alone has experienced more faux-outrage than a lesser man's entire body.

That's his second time in recent memory launching a tirade against them. He did it for the children's referendum or abortion debate too iirc.

It's nice to see at least one politician asking who the hell those cowboys are.
