I was there about 8 years ago, and read in the Lonely Planet that women spend about 70% of their income on their looks & grooming! The standard is unbelievably high!
Also,I think the only country to have more Miss World titles is the USA.

I've worked with a few Venezuelans of both genders. Some are passionate, some are boring. Some are beautiful, most are average-looking.
The people coming here are mostly professionals, and not beauty-pageant contestants.

Isn't reality boring?

I met two Venezuelan women over here in London recently, one of them was living in Paris the other in Dublin. The lady living in Dublin seemed to love it there.

I was there recently too, and my understanding is that much of that 70% may be spent on cosmetic surgery. I don't have any data, but I believe cosmetic surgery is incredibly popular in Venezuela.

It's a sad example of the failures of socialism. The country is both authoritarian whilst completely lacking in life quality, by any measurement you might choose. . My taxi driver worked 3 jobs, had no savings, no meaningful personal liberty, and lamented the country's youth's preoccupation with materialism.

I don't know why they spend so much on personal grooming. Caribbean weather with no other valuable social outlets, and no career opportunities, perhaps? Venezuela is a country with no hope, and no society. Chavez was an ape and a fool for many honest Venezuelans, speaking privately.

Worst of both worlds, I don't wonder why so many of them emigrate.
