Heroin overdose. Great actor, lots of charm. I would have loved to have seen more from him.

I'm genuinely shocked by this. Nobody should be checking out like that at 46.

He was an immensely talented actor; the world of film has lost one of it's greats.

    RIP

RIP, A Late Quartet is my favorite movie! One of those actors who never starred in a bad movie, who performed on a totally different level!

    drug overdose

Hoffman, 46, was found in the bathroom of the fourth-floor

Police found what they believe to be heroin inside the apartment

Hoffman's body was discovered by a playwright who had been working with him.

A needle was found in one of the actor's arms

Was he into drugs at all?

Was previously in treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. According to recent media reports he had relapsed after 23 years.

    prescription drugs.

apparently he had dabbled in heroin too

He was one of those actors that was a pleasure a to watch (along with Meryl Streep, Judie Dench and Cate Blanchett). Not a very famous film but Love Liza was one of the best films I've ever seen.

Yes. A great film. I think it was his best movie- the final scene was brilliant
I don't think he was ever in a bad movie, or if he was he made it better by virtue of his presence. The guy could make reading a phone book sound interesting.

Only saw Red Dragon last night, and Moneyball during the week.

Magnificent actor, one of the greatest of his generation. It's a huge loss.

    Shocking to hear.

Wouldnt think he would be doing heroin by looking at him.

    R.I.P.

Genuinely sad as he was a fantastic actor and 46 is too young of an age to go.

He was one of my favourite actors. A genuinely amazing talent and a real loss to film. One of the greatest actors of his generation, no doubt. Sad end to it all.
