He was an interesting actor, I enjoyed his work, understated.

No gushing RIP's from me, but I liked him

something very natural about him on screen, and someone who keeps putting out good performances, sad loss for his family and the film industry

Could someone please fix the typo in the thread title? Getting someone's name right is about the most basic mark of respect there is ... :(

    edit: that was quick.

He was a great actor without getting too serious or po-faced about it. I'll remember his dramatic turn in Synecdoche, New York, but I'll also remember him rocking out to Deep Purple while chasing tornadoes in Twister.

PS: TMZ and BBC are already speculating about a Heroin OD as the cause.

Government resting upon the will and universal suffrage of the people has no anchorage except in the people's intelligence.

Fuk it that's genuinely saddening for me. Brilliant actor - and gone so early in life. What a waste... :-/

Jesus, I'm not carving his name on the grave stone! I looked over it, and noticed I spelled Philip wrong (I had 2 l's) never noticed Seymour was wrong!

    Weird.

There seems to be a hoax about every celebrity dying almost daily so it stands to reason by law of averages some of them will die in the same week. Happened with Paul Walker too.

I really liked his part in Almost Famous, small part but a good one.

Agree completely - one of the most underhyped actors in Hollywood. Genuinelay saddened at his passing.

He was one of those actors that was a pleasure a to watch (along with Meryl Streep, Judie Dench and Cate Blanchett). Not a very famous film but Love Liza was one of the best films I've ever seen.

That's awful news. Such a tragic waste of talent if it's true.

PSH was not the stereotypical male acting star who could sell posters of himself. He was born with average physical appearance, but a really magnificent acting talent. He made it look effortless. I thought he was excellent in 'Magnolia', 'MI3', and 'Red Dragon', among others.

That's it. He got where he did through sheer talent. That's so rare nowadays, particularly in Hollywood. This is a serious loss to film. Not many like him.

gutted to hear this tragic news
a truly brilliant actor and I am not one of these people who think actors are over rated luvvies....I love movies, I love proper serious actors like hoffman just like the brandos, newmans, lancasters, pacinos, bogarts, cagneys, vivien leighs, fondas, bronsons, bergmans, deniros, lemons, etc in their prime... think great actors are important and enrich our lives....I liked every performance I saw him give.
my favourite was scent of a woman , the big lebowski , the master, hunger games, talented mr ripley, capote, boat that rocked, charlie wilsons war, patch adams boogie nights, twister and magnolia...he was also brilliant in flawless with deniro
a very intelligent powerful yet subtle actor, you could always see his brain at work.....Ill be sure to trawl through his vast body of work as a tribute to a brilliant talent

    rip mr seymour hoffman

RIP. Phenomenal actor. I brought my little brother to The Hunger Games. He was 13, and I expected him to like the killing and Jennifer Lawrence. He came out of it, asked who Hoffman was, and we spent an enjoyable two months watching as many of his films as I could get my hands on.

I was hoping someone was going to disconfirm the report. Loved him as Brandt in the Big Lebowski. He was brilliant in The Master recently. Awful waste.
