Why do ticket companies not fix the issue of touting?

In the current absence of a touting thread and as we have a big day for tickets, I even saw €850 being asked for two Garth Brookes tickets today, let's continue talking about touting.

Why don't the likes of ticketmaster stamp this out? Surely it would be easy to print the credit card holders name on the tickets or request the name at time of purchase?

Better yet, why don't we just tell touts NO, and refuse to pay more than face value?

because at a guess, people connected to Ticketmaster are touts themselves ...

yes, it should do alright... are there any ticket companies outside of Ireland that do as you mentioned, and print the cardholders details on the ticket? It would be an idea..

yeah, refuse to buy them, and force the scalpers to go and listen to Garth Brooks. Very suitable punishment.

The Garth Brooks thing sickens my ring to be brutally honest. I've never rated him as a performer, and his hokey honky tonk sh!te music to generate E15million in sales in a matter of hours never ceases to amaze me. In a country in the middle of a recession/depression cycle, that the disposable income exist to effectively donate a couple of million to this hack.......

Anyway, rant over. Have fun everyone who managed to get a ticket. Hope its worth the entry fee.

Supply and demand unfortunately.

It wouldn't be feasible for ticket master to start taking some kind of I . D to process a booking (circa airline style) resulting in a ticket only being valid with accompanying id.

As long as we have fans willing to pay to see events, be it sporting/musical or whatever, and as long as these events can only hold x amount of people, we will always have Y amount of people willing to pay over the odds to be there.

My advice. (learnt from past mistakes) Anyone really desperate for a ticket, if you're buying on ebay/gumtree/etc. Wait until as close to the date of event as you realistically can. They drop to almost face value then after the hype (and desperation/panic) of the superfan dies down.

Print tickets with credit card details on them? Really? People selling tickets for higher prices will or can never be stamped out,

If you think the touts are bad for Garth Brooks, you should look at a Dublin All Ireland final!

Oh look - someone likes different music to you. And the ticket prices were reasonable considering the demand.

I'd imagine because it works as a little bit of insurance? That if a tout buys 50 tickets, that's 50 sales they've made, and if the tout takes the hit because they don't sell, well ticketmaster is all like "I already got your money dude!"

no, I think it was meant that it would be only the credit card holders name printed on the ticket.. then again, who's going to be checking to see if you are the person who's name is on the ticket I suppose. There will always be touts by the looks of it..

Not everyone possesses I.D, and tbh, I don't think that it should be a requirement needed to attend a music event (for example)

I get your sentiments, don't get me wrong (i missed out on ACDCs last. Performance in the O2 (and I wouldn't pay the touts)

A lot of the time I buy tickets I often buy for others on my credit card whether it's as a gift or just buying friends tickets at the same time so nobody misses out so it would be tough to implement.

Plus I doubt ticketmaster care as long as they sell the tickets.

At the end of the day it's reprehensible but it's not illegal and categorically not much different to trading in commodities so as long as people provide the demand it will unfortunately continue to happen.

Supply and demand, simple. Even with 200,000+ tickets sold for Brooks (I thought you were better than that Ireland

) there were people crying today because they missed out and would sell their left bollock to go.

I despise the whole touting thing and only ever buy off a ticket exchange if I miss out first time round but if people weren't so desperate to go to something like this there would be no touts. Simple really.

touts are not nice people.

are touts and the crowd that sell the cheap t shirts/merchandise outside gigs the same family/group.

i personally find them people very pushy and forceful.

i once was so desperate to get rid of 2 wwe tickets i sold them to a tout because i needed cash for E40 and i paid E80 each for them :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: and when i siad to him ill sell them for e100 he started getting aggresive

That's different, because not everyone has a fair and equal chance of getting tickets (if at all), as they don't go on general sale at all and people that have gone to games all year and would queue up for weeks don't even get the opportunity.

For Garth Brooks and the like there were 250,000 chances for everyone. The demand was greater than the supply. There is what, 20 tout ads or something?

248,950+ tickets went to fans in two hours in the fairest way TM could manage it. The system worked. If you didn't get one get over it already, most people did.

You know what? We can actually do something about it. Use crowdsourcing to deal with the problem, I'll call it "Ethical Touting".

Imagine if every fan today buying tickets for Garth Brooks bought the maximum six tickets, and then went on to sell the spares ones for face value. Somebody with more time and facebook friends then me should start a campaign encouraging everybody to buy up extra tickets for major events and resell them for face value. It won't stop all the touts, but it'll cut their margins, and it'll restore some faith in humanity.

Oh, and come up with a better name than "Ethical Touting", it's sh!te. "Ethiketing", perhaps.
