Ok bring on the weather, smokes and beer at the ready! Scanner getting primed now so a few beeps to be expected. dropping FIS now, op's will go missing if the winds pick up.

    This too shall pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,151 ✭✭✭Mech1

I hear the internet connection here was down a few times today, sorry but nothing I can do about that.

Was very stable all the time I was listening today - up to about 14:30. PM'd you about audio level/quality, though.

Not exactly "bad" Mech1 - just not up to your usual high standards ;)

Will check shortly and report - on the laptop just at the moment!

Im hearing it perfect here but im using big speakers not pc type stuff, no changes here except output level was raised a few days ago due to a listener that couldnt hear due to the wind noise at his location.

I have reduced output to old setting in the last 10 min, EQ is software based settings so when put back on returns to saved specs automatically, so no change there.

All comments on Audio level / Quality needed.

Sounds perfect to me, a shamrock reported that they ran over a rabbit. Unusual thing to hear

Apologies for the delay, but back on main PC again. Sounds good! I think some of the aircraft replies were "overdriving" the sound levels earlier and perhaps getting into clipping.

Just curious lads. Who exactly is situated in the tower at Dublin and what are their jobs.

    I know theres

Tower - For take offs and landing aircraft on finals?
Ground - For all taxiing aircraft until they get to the runway. Do they do engine start approvals too?
Delivery - Do they just confirm flight plans on this?
Approach - Thats for all aircraft approaching dublin until they get within the towers airspace?
Centre - Not sure exactly what this is. For aircraft passing over the airport?

Also, do each of these only have 1 person controlling the frequency at any one time, and are they all situated in the top of the tower overlooking the airfield. (the big glass part)

Also, when you hear shannon controlling all aircraft movement in and around the country between airports, are they situated in a tower, or just a windowless room.

I've been up flying so much in light aircraft alot and I hear the controllers so much that they have familiar voices, I really should know the difference by now :pac:

    not a pilot btw.

Sounds like they're having small issues with the taxiway lighting.

Max is 4 in the tower working. Air, surface, CDS and a data assistant.

Everyone else works in the ACC Area Control Center below the tower. Nowadays it's one man sectors so one person per frequency. The area sectors used to be two man but they changed them last year to one man, you might hear is say on frequency a lot "sorry was on the phone/intercom" as we miss transmissions more now that we as one person have to talk to the pilots and talk to other sectors by phone.

Some towers like Cork have approach situated in the tower where there is room.

I listen very regularly and find the sound quality excellent, Pat.

It was clipping a while back probably because the volume was turned up a notch too much but while listening over the Christmas period to now it's been A1.

I didn't have anything to do today, so had the feed on in the house all day. It's interesting to hear the range of things that go on. The first plane in today hit a hare, and had to file an incident, an ATC asked that his wife would be looked after, a passagner managed to set off a life vest which needed to be replaced, a phone was found on a flight deck and a few other random things.
