Has the Minister for Health commented on this yet?
Probably will when they come out of it.

Are these the same deli's that were charging €6 for a sandwich and €2.50 for a cup of coffee a few years ago?

I'd prefare to get a 6" sub and a cappachino for €4 ... Bring them on!!!

You can find a decent deli, you can't eat anything decent in Subway, I lie, the meatballs ones are nice.

2 were open in my town and both closed. 1 reopened again and Applegreen have 1 as well. It isn't as if there's a lack of deli's or fast food places about in most towns.

Want to see Manhattan mid-town Starbuck's and Subway on every corner.

Sure, are you offering your private jet to bring us over for the tour?

On the one hand, I'm sick of American restaurants (and their knock-off imitators) in Ireland.

On the other hand, they seem to serve better food at a better price.

Subway is so overrated. Give me an independently run deli any day- they're not even that much cheaper anyway. And the smell walking down the street, bleugh.

A subway on every corner and a cap in every ass

If such places are "open on every corner" then it stands to reason that they're doing business.

I don't which ones are franchises but I doubt franchises would be part of a concerted effort to drive out niche cafés just pandering to demand .

I had my first ever subway in San Fran last year after, muck but in most big cities they are as ubiquitous as Starbucks and as said above jobs are jobs.

I would however much prefer an indigenous business. There are 2 cafés near me, one in particular struggles a bit and I always try to get anything there rather than a chain if possible

I only ever had one sub and that was an Italian BMT. It was spicy and very tasty.
I hear they are doing a breakfast. Anyone know what it is like as I am fussy about my breakfast?

In my local Deli Café a freshly made chicken/ham/turkey/beef sandwich/roll with salad, coleslaw and mayo/butter/mustard etc costs €3.50 and you won't be hungry after it.

Better still, they have a deal going with my local pub a few doors down. You can be sitting at the bar and order a sandwich/roll/wrap from their menu and a pint for €6. The barman rings it in, serves you a pint and the Deli drops the sambo down to you !

Try getting that in Subway :)

Just hope it doesn't end up like London where you can't turn a corner without the same 3-4 shops appearing twice on every street. The usual suspects, EAT, Starbucks, Pret A Manger, etc.

In one sense Dublin already has with the amount of Spar, Centra and Londis shops everywhere.

    Lovely, Subway is yum.

Aren't just competiting against places that sell chicken rolls like spar and centra

It's pretty much already happened with corner shops these days. How many jobs have been lost in them but replaced by Spars, Centras or Londises. You'd have to wonder what the net effect on employment this would have.

These are EVERYWHERE in London! And they ain't even nice. Just average sandwiches.
Don't bark at me for linking to this certain publication but clearly theres more than one reason to not like this place

    I fear for the future!

I don;t really mind Subway, wouldnt go there that often. You would certainly get very sick of the stuff if you went fairly often

Ye's had 2? Thought there was only ever 1. Noticed the one at Applegreen a few weeks ago, never knew one of the others reopened.

Couldn't eat in a place like that. The cups are plastic looking.

Poor to be honest. The same kind of over-processed stuff you'll find in McDonalds. There's much better options around Dundalk.

and yet its product is superior to subway's in almost every way. people are stupid.

Love Quiznos! Great subs. I'd eat there everyday except there is this really sour one behind the counter who ****s up the order on purpose. I am Jack's seething contempt.

I'm a fan and they would have a better selection of bread, sauce and fillings than any delis I can think of.

CEO: Clive Schee has said he checks to see whether staff are touching each other when he visits Pret branches
Where do I sign up! :pac:

But I'd rather eat in my own locally run Deli Café with its freshly prepared food than some homogeneous branch of a large multinational where hot food is the result of a staff member putting the fillings of a sandwich into a microwave and pushing a button.

Subway don't compete with the fancy sandwich places - they compete with the greasy hot chicken/breakfast roll spar counters and ye olden cafés that only sell stale ham and cheese sandwiches with day old coffee.

I have started to see a lot of deli's offering a better selection lately, other than the quseine de france, and breakfast/chicken baguette s.

Pret is by far the best of the Costa, Starbucks, eat etc bunch. I'd love to see them open up in Dublin.

Subway is great. Irish delis are crap unless you consider breaded chocked goujons in a roll and a bottle of manky water for a €5 good. Subway offers variety at the very least when you want a quick snack.

I think Subway is horrific, I'd much rather get a roll from my local shop then eat out of there. I've only eaten there a few times and it was always disgusting.

Still, lots of jobs counts for something!

It's no worse than cuisine de france being the only handy option for 'fresh' bread.

Fresh roughly translating as 'we only half cooked this already pre-baked bread in the shop so we can finish cooking the ones that don't sell tomorrow morning'.

They're nothing to write home about but a hell of a lot better than Maccy D's/Burger King/Kebab/deep fried salmonella outlet

Wraps are a good alternative to cuisine de france rolls, unless you get the rolls really fresh they are rank.
