yeah they have a function in cricklewood saterday night aswell i think its just tony kelly and davey so rule him out for a start

its a golden opportunity for the likes of cathal molone stephan o halloren jack browne paul flanagan allan o neill connor cleary and peter duggen all from last years u21 team to put a marker down for the league

also from a club championship point of view shane golden and jamie shannahan had strong campaign's up to the munster final for sixmilebridge , niall deasy defiantly deservers his chance aswell after an excellent championship with ballyea , was on the county panel all last year but never got a run

nice return for bobby duggan with 12 points several impressive performances from the newcomers limerick were very poor though they seemed to have a strong enough team out aswell

Clare played reasonably well today but limerick were very poor I thought.

About the Clare lads performances, I'd go as follows:

Donal Tuohy: Fine solid game today - looked assured under high balls and dealt with anything that came near him.
Killian Ryan: Played further out the field following Limerick's John Fitzgibbon (who will have nightmares - must have missed 6 or 7 frees). Ryan did well and chipped in with an excellent point.
Cillian Duggan: Look solid at full back. His strength was a key asset and he used himself well. Clever with the ball too when coming out looking to find a colleague all the time.
Seadna Morey: Did very well on Graeme Mulcahy and was well able for his pace - in the second half he was a bit more adventurous and got caught a couple of times in possession but performed well throughout.
Conor Cleary: An excellent game and really put his hand up for league selection - strong in the air and a very crisp striker of the ball.
Patrick Kelly: Held the centre very well executing a number of quality dispossessions in the first half in particular.
Patrick O'Connor: Good game throughout - did what he had to do with very little fuss and was assured in possession.
Liam Markham: Got on the ball quite a bit in the first half and used his pace well to get away from Limerick men - could probably have used the ball a bit better at times I felt.
Shane Golden: Reasonably quiet in the first half but covered a lot of ground in the second - could have ended the day with a couple of points but was unlucky.
Nicky O'Connell: Was a little disappointed in Nicky although would hold him to higher standards due to the time he has been on the panel - a couple of bad wides and pass selections at times.
Cathal O'Connell: A real live wire all day - got a good point from an excellent Colin Ryan pass in the second half. Limerick had trouble with him all day and he was the recipient of some rough treatment which on other day could have led to red cards for Limerick men. Another who put his hand up for league selection.
Alan O'Neill: The game passed him by and was substituted at half time. Was unusual to see him at wing forward - could have done with a move to either full forward or centre back.
Bobby Duggan: Star of the show in my eyes. Some excellent free taking including one monster in the second half. Missed two towards the end when tired but scored 9 out of 11 from frees. Chipped in with 3 beauties from play as well including a sublime over the shoulder effort. Will start games in the NHL.
Conor Cooney: In a new position for Clare but has excelled as full forward for the Mills. Had a decent, if not spectacular game. Got on the ball well but could have done with more help at times as he often ended up isolated through no fault of his own.
David Reidy: Got on the end of a long Tots delivery to flick the ball to the net for the goal - looked lively all afternoon but probably didn't threaten the scoreboard enough.

    Subs:
Sean Collins for O'Neill (half time): Looked very enthusiastic for the ball - so much so he shouldered Golden off the ball at one stage when they were 10 yards or more from nearest Limerick man.
Davy O'Halloran, Colin Ryan, and a player not named in the programme who looked like Shane Taylor to me came on towards the end but didn't get much time.

i cant argue with the above thats excatley how i saw the game the promising side of this is there are around 7 or 8 fringe squad players to come back from collage duty not to mention the 13 or 14 that won the all ireland

i taught cooney was a going to change possition at the start, i had'nt seen any of the mills games in the championship it turns out he is a fine full forward had a good game

agreed i think you asked me for a report earlier i would have probabley just confused everyone if i tried anything like this great report and as i said from someone that was at the game today thats exactly how the clare lads preformed great analysis you could have a rival on your hands :pac:

Glad the report has gone down well. I was out of the country all last year myself (I know what a year to miss out on!) so was delighted to be back following the lads in real time again! I've been told the sub that came on was Shane Gleeson - another who will need some game time as he only got the few minutes today. It was very heartening to see effectively a full new team out without the all-Ireland starters and doing so well (Patch excepted - wonder what happened with Stephen O'Halloran who had been named on the programme). Exciting times ahead with the battle for places considering the amount of lads on the college panels as you mentioned.

God ,not at all:|.I love these reports and it brings a great interest to a game, and these ametuatrs should get more exposure.

The clare champion ,credit due, will do a report ,but other papers might not.For me,i couldnt go to that game ,but it paints a terffic picture of the game, and is a open honest report.

Not at all,you should do one .At the end of the day youre doing your best .

Bobby Duggan is from Clarecastle. This is his first year out of minor.

The Duggan from Clooney you are thinking of, is Peter Duggan. Peter is U21 this year. I saw him in the stand at the match yesterday, so he was obviously not part of yesterdays panel.

He is in second year in UCC. He was at the Clare match yesterday as a spectator.

UCC were playing Mary I in one of the other Waterford Crystal quarter finals yesterday, so perhaps he is just going to hurl Fitzgibbon with them ?

Bobby Duggan broke a finger in training during the week. The timing could not be worse for him.

yeah taught as much ucc's game against cork was much closer aswell , i think people are making a bit of a big deal with the scoreline i doubt the final will go ahead next week if the fizgibbon cup is starting ul i am sure will be concreting more on that i would think if they were full strength they could run tip close but that is unlikley to happen now

The result is nothing to get excited about, then.

If anybody could produce a match report of the Clare footballers today or point me in the direction of one it would be greatly appreciated.

Solid first round win and hopefully they can keep it up for the rest of the league.
