I love it that when you go harder than the plan dictates, you spend have your post explaining that it's ok, no need to worry folks. It won't stop the trolls in here from having a go:pac:

    Thursday 16th: Plan: 5-8 Easy.

Met up with cianc for this one (I'm a social animal :) ) and ran down just past the Aras and back.
He turns up in a TShirt at 8:30 at night - me in my hat, gloves, base layer, t-shirt and Jacket

Nice run at a nice pace with a bit of banter. Amazing how fast an hour can go with company.

    8.2m @ 8:18

Got a call later for a few pints with the football buddies - couldn't say no :p

    Friday 17th: Plan 7-10 easy.

Kept it to 6:14m @ 8:38 - nice easy/recovery run. Nothng to do with the previous nights pints.....swear.

Out with the dog for this one, nice and easy - the right big toe knuckle still giving a small few issues with the 2 new pairs of runners.

I'll be dammed if a toe knuckle is going to stop me from running a Marathon !!

Saturday 18th: Plan 16-19 easy LSR.

Woke up tired this morning  - Decided to continue with the easy effort and do a vanilla 16 miles - no progression or neg split run. Out in the rain, quite a lot of hardy soldiers out as well - nice to see.
Nothing spectacular to report apart from doing the usual 3 pair of runner test, before going back to the tried and trusted Guide 6's - no pain from these on the knuckle.
At about mile 13 - the Guide 6's were feeling uncomfortable on the forefoot - at this stage they've about 550 miles on them - I'd say the rain didn't help.

    16.13m @ 7:50 pace.

** Had a Blanch voucher burning a hole in my pocket so went out and bought a pair of 'Go Run 3' Skechers - they felt really nice and light in the shop with no aggravation of the big toe knuckle (gotta find a proper name for that - something that makes it sound like the new 'metatarsal injury'). Will see how they go in the coming days - but wearing them around the house, they feel great.
Will break them in properly and rotate with the Guide 6's.
The new Guide 7's and Lunarlides will be put away for another time.

Weekly mileage so far is 59.6 miles - maybe a short recovery run tomorrow if I can fit it in.

Dungarvan 10 miler is next week and the plan actually provides for a race next week as well, but doesn't seem to taper that much with a 1-2-1mile session on Monday and a 20min/10min MP run on Wed, I may take a rest day on Friday rather than the planned 5-8m easy run - will see how I feel.
Most of next weeks runs will be at the lower range - so planning for 45miles inc the race.

............now, did I ever tell you about the Linford Christie story.......... :D

Thanks for the company and AMK.
My wife was a bit amused when I told her I was going running with someone from the internet, but my sister-in-law was convinced you were going to axe murder me :) Since I made it back alive she thinks you're playing the long game, and that there's something gruesome in store for me after another few meet ups.

Blockic was married with kids before he met the runner formerly known as RMK.

He's now single, acts like a 14 year old and wears pink runners.

Patty or Selma (?) could be on to something

In fairness I take no part or blame in the pink runners. That was all him.

Meant to add earlier, and this may fit in the rant page, I came across a lady in full running attire, running up Chesterfield Ave in PP with an Umbrella, met her again coming back the other way!!
Didn't even get to see if she had nice hair as the umbrella was pulled low ;)

Statss was around Marley, so it wasn't him........

Gentle recovery run in the PP with the dog today.

I'm really getting to like these slow runs.
4.28 miles @ 9:27 pace. (new runners felt really comfortable and light)

A bit of core work & foam rolling early on - legs feel good & fresh despite my 3rd 60+ mile week.

    New Runners?
    What did you get?
More of the same or new-new?

Was upto high mileage on my New Balance, Saucony Guide 6 and Lunar Eclipse - I retired the NB & LE.

Got Lunar Glides and Saucony Guide 7's over the Christmas, both of which were aggravating my right foot (toe knuckle).

Bought a pair of Skechers Go Run 3 yesterday - just tried them on for the crack, had no intention of buying them, but loved the feel immediately, so bought a pair after a long hard think about how I'd break the news to herself :)

Monday 20th Jan: Start of week 6 in the plan.

Plan: 8 to 11 miles total. 1 mile-2 mile-1 mile at slightly slower than 10K pace, 4 and 7 minutes recovery

    Another lunchtime run.
Must do a 10k sometime to get a handle on what my 10k pace is - for now I reckon its 6:05 (based on Jinglebells 5k).
So the target for these reps would be 6:10-6:15

Decided to do this session on the Furze/O.Survey roads again - I think this stretch has overtaken the Acres for me as my session location.

1.72m warm up (8:05 pace) with a few strides.

    Rep 1: 6:14 - felt controlled.

    4 min Recovery (8:42)

    Rep 2: 2 Miles (complete in 12:21) - 6:11 pace

7 min Recovery @ 8:53 pace (Don't know why the recovery is so long??)

Rep 3: 1 mile @ 6:07 pace (on target for 6:12) 'til last 400m then threw in a kick to replicate a fast finish.

    1:61 miles @ 8:41 Cool down.

Very happy with this session - felt controlled. Delighted to make it through the 2 mile segment.
Big difference to a few months back when these type of sessions posed a problem for me.

    Total: 8:57 miles @ 7:25 pace

Going for the Tempo session myself this evening as part of a 20k run. Doing the 2 mile race in Raheny on Wed where I will attempt a quick mile before and after to make up for this session.
Your training is going top notch since you started this plan. Any upwards change to the goal time / 'Main thing'?

Not this time John - I'd be too apprehensive to go aggressive for a sub3.
2:59:xx will do me just nice this time around.
