Are Dublin Scumbags worse than London Chavs?

I've lived between London and Dublin these past few years, so I have plenty of experience getting hassle from both groups. IMO the Dublin scumbag for example is far more likely to accost you or verbally hassle you in the street, but far less likely to actually do you damage than the London Chav.

    What is the AH consensus?

Far more likely to attempt a mugging or pull a knife on you. Not that scumbags in Dublin don't do that too, but the more common problem with them is verbal abuse or shooting up on public transport etc. It's a more passive annoyance.

    Just my opinion of course

Dublin scumbags all talk with Nidge Accents.

London chavs all sound the same as Mos Def.

Oh yeah, a regular Danny Dyer :D

Nah, just someone who shares a commute with too many scumbags on a daily basis :pac:

Both Vermin but London does have a healthy head start with knife and racial crime.

    Yes really.

The ones I passed outside Stockwell and Hendon Central Tube stations the other night did.

Two opposite sides of town. Same Mos Def accents.

I lived in London and never got any hassle. Can't even say I saw that many stereotypical 'chavs' on a day to day basis. Never got any hassle in Dublin either although the tracksuit wearing scumbag types seem more numerous there

My 90yr old Granny gets by in Dublin with no fear of scumbags.

As do my 2 children, and 6 nieces all under 10.

Maybe some self defense classes might help with your irrational fears op?

In my experience, the chavs don't infest the major parts of central London.

It's a joke. You see them buying and selling their stuff all over the city centre. Why do the Gardai seem either disinterested or not capable of getting them off the streets?

Is it something wrong with our laws?

In Britain they have ASBOs and jail time for scumbags.
In Ireland, it's suspended sentences all around. Maybe the occasional "Ah heyor, leave it bleedin' ouuu"

A friend of mine who has lived in both Dublin and London for years told me he feels really safe walking around Dublin at night, when drunk too, but in London he'd be afraid of being attacked.

Dublin is unusual for a large city in that there are a lot of working class areas right in the city centre. London, Paris and others don't have that.

Policing is a major factor alright, though to be fair an ASBO is a badge of honour amongst some people in the UK. They could consider here what they do in some areas of Hamburg and corral all the troublemakers into one area of the city.

Lived in Mali, Senegal and Guinea Bissau for 8 years, never had one bit of hassle and that includes so called dangerous Dakar. Some places like Lagos, Nairobi or Johannesburg might be dangerous but the majority of Africa is fine.

Your post really makes no sense.

She's worried about getting accosted by roaming gangs of Dublin scum.

I'm saying in 35 years I've never had any hassle from scummers.

There really is nothing to worry about.

If she's looking for something to worry about, try the massive percentage of rape victims know their attackers.. Is she going to cut off all contact with her family and neighbours? No.

Just because isolated incidents get reported widely in the media, does not mean they are a daily occurrence for the general populous.

I don't think I can explain it any simpler than that..

    (Is simpler a word?)

Reel in the personal abuse there Eoin. I never said anything about never seeing scummers, just that I've never had any hassle from them.

Have a quick re read there.
