Not really thats extremely expensive for a R9 280x no matter how good it is, considering you could grab a R9 290 from €395 delivered from HWVS through geizhals.de. (Presuming it ever get comes into stock of course :D)

what ever you will go for, dont go for the fat 3 sloter. Those are a pain in a hole and other coolers with 2 slots can do same job, if not better.

Thanks for the help! To be honest I'm not sure if I need something that mental, the most demanding games I play are either BF4 or Far Cry 3. Just a friend suggested looking at this range, and having the Asus Maximus MB, I really like their gear! I'm open to suggestions if you lads have some!

Well an R9 280x might be a good option for you depending on how much you want to spend, but really you only would need to be spending about 280-290 (including delivery) for a pretty good one, not the guts of €400.

Three question would be what do you have now, and what is your monitor resolution and what is your ideal budget?

You can still access it with Hola unblocker extension for chrome of course. Just dont hit refresh while on domain. Keep browsing trough links, you'll be missing images, but that's it.

    Q for y'all:

What constitutes a "high end" build these days?

is the the amount of cash thrown at a build or the value for money "bang for buck"?

    Curious.

600 euro is a good 1080P gaming computer with a gtx 760 and non overclockable i5.

Then more money for SSD, better card, overclockable processor etc.

    Impossible to future proof.

Right now I have a Radeon HD5850 on loan from a friend who no longer needed it.
Monitor resolution is 1920x1080, but at some point in the next year or so I'll be moving onto 1440p!

Budget was around 350-400, but in saying that, it never meant I had to reach the top end of that, if the card is good and gets good performance, then that's the main goal!

You might be as well off with the R9 290 if 1440p is on your radar one of those babies should be very good for gaming at that resolution, otherwise a r9 280x would be fine for 1080p.

They still aren't in stock anywhere but you said you're not buying for a few weeks anyway? The Sapphire Trix is probably the best one and should be doable for your budget.

Never heard of this before, looks interesting...
Downsampling: How to bring your older games to new life in glorious high resolution.

    http://games.on.net/2014/01/downsampling-how-to-bring-your-old-games-to-new-life-in-glorious-high-resolution/
When talking about gaming, downsampling is simply the process where you run a game at a higher resolution than your native monitor normally supports. By creating custom resolutions through the Catalyst or NVIDIA Control Panels, you can take your 1920×1080 monitor and start playing at 1440p resolutions or higher, instantly giving you a massive graphical boost and a huge reduction in aliasing.

The game still looks like it’s being played at your normal native resolution, but in reality the graphics card is just squeezing everything in to fit within the confines of your monitor. Whenever you take a screenshot though, the file is rendered at your larger-than-life sized resolution, which can then be compressed down into a standard 1080p image.

graphical option in bf4 called 'resolution scaling' iirc - does exactly that

How can I stop my graphics card fan from clicking?

It just seems to randomly happen, and could last anything from about 5 seconds to a whole minute..

Lads, how's this for a 1080p IPS monitor?

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-23EA63V-23-inch-1920-Monitor/dp/B00BJHBUW0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389995448&sr=8-1&keywords=ips

May have to buy a new monitor faster than expected due to my current one starting to feck about. Can't get a 1440p in there a long with the 280x/290! Can spare around 200 with work and Birthday cash though.

Unless you NEED the 1.5", it's 20£ cheaper

I'd go for the extra 1.5''. Those 21.5''s look a little on the small side for a modern screen. It makes a fair bit of difference in area.
BTW, the bezel edges on the first one are not as thin as some pictures would lead you to believe.

I have the one I linked. Coming from a laptop, it's perfectly big.. I don't think 1.5" would matter, and wouldnt be worth 20£ to me

Yup. Would probably mean €179.99. Which actually isn't bad when you consider the K70 is around €145 at the moment.
