That's a weird accelerator pedal. Any car I have ever owned the accelerator pedal came from the top like the clutch and brake.

I don't know how common it is, but any BMW I've owned has been as per the picture

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,295 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

See the problem is that the screws that are meant to be used are very small in order to allow the pedal to go the whole way down. Using anything bigger than them is going to stop it going down fully.

I think I'll go with Interslice's suggestion of Tec7 because the more I think about it, the better and easier it sounds.

The problem with that is that if I was to use a bigger screw, it wouldn't fit through the holes in the pedals.

Yeah use tech7 and clamp with a G clamp. On a 6mm bead Tec7 will fully cure within 24 hours. Source: http://www.contec7.co.uk/faqs.htm

    Or red locktite: http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/t_lkr_red/overview/Loctite-Threadlocker-Red-271.htm

He was driving down the motorway and noticed smoke coming from the engine. He pulled over, got out and 10 seconds later it was in flames!

No real use to anyone now - but apparently It'll smoke away when you're travelling but stopping the car is what causes the actual fire to properly break out. Something to do with the fire triangle and conditions when actually driving preventing a fire from starting. Just something random I remember from a tv show (think it was worlds deadliest disasters or something) where they analysed how everything happened.

    Good thing he's alright anyway!

It's in a good few cars, including my own. Much nicer to use than the standard "dropped from above" type. I think it's mostly on cars with an electronic throttle these days.

I think it's in everything in the VAG stable alright.

lol. That brings to mind images of the film "speed".

    He'd ring the guards

"my engine is smoking but I can't slow down or it'll catch fire. Send the fire brigade to the N20!"

it looks like its dropped from above in the picture same as the break peddle, maybe I am missing something. Also the break peddle is really small, most cars I have driven it is a size bigger than the accelerator.

That's usually in autos only, in my experience.

The throttle in most BMWs for the past 10yrs+ has been the same as in the pic.

Maybe your right, I used to drive manual and the clutch and brake are the same but the accelerator was always different, a bit like this picture.

That's in Jap Cars but most, if not all German cars are the same as mine. It's only in automatics that the brake pedal is huge just to make it foolproof for those who buy autos :pac:
