Do eircom have their own speedtest on their efibre site?

Congestion over certain links. Maybe load balancing issues.

But Manchester is the only one that is poor. All the other UK tests are close to what I get on the Dublin server. Is the Manchester result Eircom's fault?

Manchester is the only accurate one is what I take from your results.

    How can you tell?

Test from local server. Speed dropping now. Normally after 9 when this starts happening........

    All over the place.

    Dundalk

    3227057169.png

    Liverpool

    3227060667.png

But when I tested on this other UK test service I get my "normal" speeds. I did it three times. Also surfing the net does not seem any slower.

True. "Average" surfing doesn't seem much different. However it's when you're downloading an actual file of a decent size is where you start to notice it.

Just home on my break. Speeds are terrible, starting to affect general browsing at this stage.

Done a test on the Manchester server. My speed is back to what it should be. 47 down 18 up.
Also got a decent ping of 47ms.

A comparison of traceroute to Dublin vs Manchester would be interesting alright.

Aside: How often is the eircom line checker updated with newly commissioned cabs?

im experiencing same here on adsl2, getting full speeds up to about 2pm then drops to not much more than 2meg till about 1am. Been like this for 4 to 5 weeks now. Friends using other providers on same exchange reporting exactly the same.

Why is this Manchester server being held up as a bastion of connection reliability? According to speedtest.net it is hosted by tnp.net.uk. Are they a well known, reliable company? Perhaps people could also test a few different servers from http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=143 to ensure that it is not the Manchester server at fault.

Most of those are hosted on educational and research networks. They are on a completely separate network to the "rest of the world" and wouldn't be reliable for diagnosing these types of issues.

I am pretty sure that Eircom are not going to pay much attention to a speedtest result from a little known UK company so people are going to have to provide more concrete examples of this slowdown.

Manchester was just an example I threw out there.

Trying out UPC as a comparison.

    Manchester:
    3229487688.png
    Voda in Dublin: Repeatable
    3229492393.png
    Digi in Dublin:
    3229494825.png
(This is what my connection should be doing)

That suggests inbound has problems too. Vodafone/Eircom/Sky presumably join the net through the same link at INEX but at a guess Digiweb have separate backhaul/peering.
