Wouldn't worry about the 4 miles. I don't think I ever got beyond 90 percent of the min distances in meno's plan for DCM. Would settle for 4 miles a week at the moment myself!

Struggling through an 8 mile session, jogging home all smug and proud of myself because I was very close to bailing and staying in bed, 5 minutes from home and the snow starts to fall, get home to find my 3 kids dancing around because the snow came in time for santa tonight, then remembering its bloody christmas eve :D Does life get any better?

Tues 8.1m @ 9.20 Headed out into the storm fully expecting to turn back after a mile. Plan was 2m warm up, 4 mile - progression run 9.30, 9.00, 8.30, 8.00, then 2m c/d

progression splits 9.24, 8.55, 8.27, 7.55 but involved a bit of cheating. Complete headwind for last 2 and the only way I could get through them was by stopping at the end of each one. Was absolutely busted after this - effort was definitely much harder than it should have been, hate the wind

Wed 2.8m @ 11.53 - Christmas day plod with my sister, she's getting faster, I'll make a runner out of her yet ;)

Fri 6.9m @ 9.47 - easy run with pyramid strides - so over the stormy weather

Sat - 14.3m LSR @ 10.09 - no problems with this run thankfully after struggling with 12m last week :)

Sun - 4.5m @ 11.00 - frosty, slippy plod through the trails - take this over wind any day :)

36.5m week so on schedule for the plan. Passed 1600 miles for the year somewhere this week so happy enough with that considering its about 1000m more than last year

So 2013 ended with a 7.5 mile run yesterday. Plan was 10m with 6 @ MP but I was very time restricted so 7.5 with 5 @ MP was all I could fit in, better than nothing. Ran the 5 @ MP without looking at the watch so was happy to be able to judge the pace by effort, splits 8.52, 8.53, 8.40, 8.46, 8.36. Felt strong at this pace.

Happy to end the year with this - has been a crap year since last May in terms of running - health issues, poor performance, etc., etc. but I'm feeling a bit more positive about the year ahead (I'll quietly ignore the fact that I'm too hungover today to even consider a run ).

2 goals for the year: finish a marathon (hopefully around the 4 hour mark and hopefully in London!) and get the spring back in my step. Its been a while since I stood at the start line of a race bouncing on my toes, excited about the run - I want to get that back this year :)

Thanks to all on boards for the amazing support and advice throughout the year. As a lone and clueless runner I really appreciate the help :) Best of luck to all here with their running goals and hopefully catch up with some of you at races this year :D

This week should have been 30m ending in a 10k today - didn't happen...but considering it was a week of indulgence and 3 hangovers  I'm happy enough with what I got done:

Tues - planned 10m with 6 @ MP - only had time for 7.5m with 5 @ MP but happy with how it went

Thur - 6.3m easy @ 9.47, evening run in the rain, hangover cured ;)

Fri - 4.2m @ 10.42, plod with the dog before another night out :o

Sun - 8m @ 9.30 including 9 x 400m intervals. Was gonna do a 10k today but woke up still hungover from Friday night  Decided to try the session so headed out in the wind and rain. Bailed after 9 reps because of the ridiculous headwind, happy enough as I was close to bailing after 6, splits:
    1.45, 1.46, 1.43, 1.48, 1.44, 2.04, 1.48, 1.41, 1.57. Easy to see which were into the headwind.

Jogged home having to walk in parts as the wind was so strong, if that session doesn't stand to me I give up

Signed up for a 10k in 2 weeks time so I'll move things around to fit that in. For the record I think I proved that endurance running improves drinking endurance with my week of antics culminating in a session on Friday night lasting to 4.30am on Saturday morning  This coming from the girl who's usually tucked up in bed at 10.30pm! Never again, gimme a 20m run any day ;)

Hoping to reach the dizzy heights of 40m this week :)

I did this week last week to accommodate the 10k (which didn't happen - oops!) and I'll do last week's this week. Refusing to do the session in stormy conditions though

^^^^ Ahhh Ok, that makes sense. Was beginning to think there that I had miscalculated my dates. These weather conditions are playing havoc with us at the moment alright. Hopefully it'll settle a bit over next few days.

Keep up the good work anyway. My step back week is timely as I have to travel to Scotland on Wed for a funeral. Might try the session on tuesday instead.

Hi RC yeah I guess training for Derry has started but still in the low miles, seriously can't even imagine doing big miles at this stage, been so long. I'm following club schedule which is continuously ongoing. it had us doing very little last couple months in comparison to what we've been doing before that. I did manage 10.5m on Saturday , very easy tho n longest in a long time. Seriously need to start doing some core n S&C work which I don't currently do. A friend got me a running journal as wee pressie for Xmas so I'm going record mileage on it but still would like log on thread too.

Not much to report this week. Ran 6.2m on Tues but didn't feel great and woke on Wed unwell so didn't run Wed, Thur or Fri. Whole house has been sick for the past week so I had no chance of escaping this one. Felt better by the weekend so ventured out yesterday and today:

    Sat 5.1m easy @ 10.15
    Sun 8.9m easy @ 10.19

Both runs were more about seeing how I was feeling than training. Still not 100% but definitely on the mend.

Time to take marathon training seriously now. There's been many a late night through booze and interrupted sleep with sick kids up to now but I know from experience that the only way I can successfully complete marathon training is by getting enough sleep, simple as that. So that's the plan from here on...early nights. Hopefully I can get through a decent training block in Feb and Mar. The running will be tricky - fitting it round 2 jobs, back studying, OH away with work Mon to Fri and 3 kids - but the mojo is high so I'll give it a go :)

The week ahead (health allowing) will be a midweek 16m LSR and a 10k next weekend - not a PB course, not a PB attempt, but fun looking off-road course through forest trails so looking forward to giving it a go :)

Runchick I really do admire you, you sound like superwoman! I don't know you fit it all in but well done you. Your an inspiration to those who say they haven't time to run! Good to hear your back on the road after being sick, it's day 9 on the couch for me, hoping to chance an easy run tomorrow, just heard a few horror stories about chest infections and am really afraid I'll be out for longer if I don't let it clear properly.
Is it menos plan your following for London?

Hey DOCO oh my goodness I'm really not superwoman! I go out for a run when I really should be doing other things - running's the easy bit! Life is more hectic now than ever though so I'm just putting it out there as a reminder to myself that I may not do the miles I want to and that's ok!!

Def take it easy with the chest - mine's never really been right since the summer, slightest sign of a virus and its my chest that complains..keeping a training log has been a good way of tracking these things so keep posting the good and the bad! Take the rest and you'll be back on form in no time!

Yeah following Meno's plan again, enjoyed it the last time so happy to give it a go again :)

Hope you're feeling better soon, good luck with the comeback :D

DOCO12 is completely right. You are an inspiration and you should be very proud of what you've achieved to-date, considering all you have going on. Some of us have it so easy compared to people like yourself. You never make excuses and just get on with it. Be proud:D

Not much to report until now RR but getting back in to things this week, will know better after LSR tomorrow. Have had a diagnosis regarding the continuous chest/throat problems but will require surgery so probably a 6-12 month wait for that. Can still run but doubt I'll be able to train hard until after that. Will run London for fun though so plan to build up LSRs and not worry too much about other sessions.

Your training is going great, delighted for you :D

That's awful for you, I hope you can get that problem sorted permanently with the surgery. Good luck tomorrow and over the next while building up your long ones.

That's tough RC but hopefully u will get sorted n back full health soon, wise decision to take it easy enough till afterwards n just run for pleasure. All the very best, u have had a bad time of late!!

Had considered not logging any more as there's no improvement going on here but thought feck it once I get fully healthy again and start smashing my running targets then I'll want to look back at the crap stuff so I'll stick around for a bit longer ;)

Missed the 10k a few weeks back - just wasn't getting any better, ran a few times but knew I wasn't ready so took a break and started back this week:

Wed 4.5m easy around 10.30 pace - felt harder than it should

Thur 5m easy - same pace as day before and starting to feel better - at last :)

Sat 16m LSR @ 10.30 - last long run was 14m 4 weeks ago  so headed out not sure what to expect. What a day - wind, rain, flooding - all of which I strangely enjoyed - there's something very invigorating about running open to the elements! Kept the pace slow and found things surprisingly enjoyable. Ran out of fuel after 15.5 - jelly legs, etc. so called it quits at 16m and walked the last 0.5m home. Happy with this and encouraged by the fact that I felt pretty good after and today.

    Sun - 3.4m recovery

So change of plans for me. I will most definitely run London marathon but not for a time. I've had 4 chest infections in the last 6 months and will probably get more until I get surgery to fix my dodgy sinuses. Running isn't a problem but I can't progress when I'm constantly sick, having to rest then build myself up again. Its frustrating but finally knowing what's going on is a relief.

Plan for the next 10 weeks is to build up LSRs and hopefully get in 2 or 3 20+ milers. Probably only peak at around 45m per week, I'm hoping that this will not stress my body too much and allow me to run London, can't wait for it :D

So sorry to hear you keep getting sick, 4 chest infections in 6months ouch you poor thing. But I agree with your positivity that at least now you know that there's light at the end of the tunnel and it will get fixed. You should def keep up the log I for one enjoy reading I and can't wait to hear all about London. Plus as you said yourself you will look back and see your massive improvements! Least now you can look forward pressure free, enjoy every minute of the build up hype and saviour the atmosphere before and during the marathon in London. :)
