As Seamus notes there are large areas off the beaten track that humans rarely visit and there are new species found every year. Including primates. An unusually large type of chimp was discovered in the Congo recently enough. Bigfoot in the US? Unlikely. Why? Basically because the evidence seems to show the only great ape that made it to the Americas was us. Asia is a far more likely place to look. There are enormous forested regions that could easily hide such a creature and there have been great apes in Asia for millions of years. The Orang Pendek is an interesting case and a few primatologists are suggesting there may be something to it.

Though talk of earlier hominids surviving down to today in that neck of the woods is highly unlikely. They had a culture and fire and tools etc so would stand out in a landscape. Though I personally think Homo Erectus and Neandertals(and other similar hominids) may have survived down to more recent times than the current evidence suggests. Like down to say 10,000 years ago, rather than the 30,000 years ago currently accepted. The "Hobbits" of Flores lasted to 12,000 years ago and if local legends are anything to go by may have lasted into historical times.
