Saying "bigfoot" is racist, I think they want to be called "sasquatch" now.

Lets assume for a moment there is such a thing as Bigfoot......

Why in the name of everything that's good and holy would you want to kill it?

    Shot and killed last year.

Yeah... something tells me if you killed a "100% real" Bigfoot you wouldn't wait a year to talk about it

He just needed time to "prep" the carcass to make it look like a bigfoot presentable.

Rick Dye was at the centre of the last notable Bigfoot hoax where the "body" was found to be just a rubber gorrila costume.

There are enormous forests in North America, vast swathes of land that haven't been explored in any serious way. So it's not completely ridiculous to suggest that there are as yet undiscovered mammalian species living in these forests. The same is true of the Amazonian and other places.

Of course, the larger the alleged animal, the smaller the likelihood that it will go undetected. A very hairy bipedal ape standing between 5 and 8 feet tall is going to have a hard time hiding in the trees. Especially considering that he claims to have shot this thing in Southern Texas, that seems like an awfully big coat for an animal which has to contend with summer temps around 30 degrees.

TL;DR: Bigfoot-like animal exists? Not completely impossible. This guy has shot one? Not a chance.

I think this might be fake. I do believe there could be something like that out there maybe even in the Wicklow mountains. But I reckon this guy staged it...

You, in all seriousness, think there's a possibility that a Sasquatch-like creature could live in the Wicklow mountains?

As Seamus notes there are large areas off the beaten track that humans rarely visit and there are new species found every year. Including primates. An unusually large type of chimp was discovered in the Congo recently enough. Bigfoot in the US? Unlikely. Why? Basically because the evidence seems to show the only great ape that made it to the Americas was us. Asia is a far more likely place to look. There are enormous forested regions that could easily hide such a creature and there have been great apes in Asia for millions of years. The Orang Pendek is an interesting case and a few primatologists are suggesting there may be something to it.

Though talk of earlier hominids surviving down to today in that neck of the woods is highly unlikely. They had a culture and fire and tools etc so would stand out in a landscape. Though I personally think Homo Erectus and Neandertals(and other similar hominids) may have survived down to more recent times than the current evidence suggests. Like down to say 10,000 years ago, rather than the 30,000 years ago currently accepted. The "Hobbits" of Flores lasted to 12,000 years ago and if local legends are anything to go by may have lasted into historical times.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Indeed, the thing is that any hominids who use tools, fire, etc, will likely use/need habitats similar to humans, and therefore are unlikely to go undetected for very long.
Ultimately however this means that they had to compete with humans for resources. And that's never going to end well for the non-humans.

But hominids who generally don't have to share habitats with humans, e.g. ones who live in dense rainforest, can naturally go undetected for quite a long time. There are parts of this planet which may never have been visited by homo sapiens, ever. It's really only in recent times that we've taken to exploring just for the hell of it. Up until then the purpose of exploration was to find new resources. When you're exploring and faced with going through dense rainforest probably teeming with things that want to kill you, or taking a boat down the river, you'll probably go with the boat.

Wasn't there proof recently that the hairs found in some forrest were DNA tested and found to be the hairs from a Bear thought extinct 40,000 year ago ? I'll see if I can find the link.

There are still plenty of human tribes around the world that have never had any contact with the outside world.....at all......and seemingly they've been discovered as recent as this century!

So it would seem to me it's absolutely possible there could be something like Bigfoot/Sasquatch/Yeti/etc. etc. etc. out there.

I agree it's quite unlikely to be in the US though. For North America my bet would be on Canada's northern territories.

There was a series of 3 programmes on Channel 4, where Mark Evans, a vet and TV presenter, visited the Himalayas, Russia and North America to investigate their respective Bigfoot varieties. They collected hair samples from all 3 areas from people who swore blind they were from bigfoots (bigfeet?) and had them DNA tested. Both in Russia and North America all samples were discovered to be from bears, horses, cows (!), wolves all kinds of animals.

But one sample from the Himalayas was unusual. It seemed to be from an extinct species of bear that was a primitive ancestor of both brown and polar bears before they diverged thousands of years ago, or maybe some kind of hybrid of the two.
