Gotta love the resources people have in this place :)

Bartop looks class. Have you picked a button/stick colour combo?

I've two bat sticks {I know I know, but it's what I grew up playing on real cabs so I don't mind them at all} already here for it. Will prob just use all red for the player buttons, white for the two start buttons, & I'll get one of those Insert Coin buttons/fake coin chute thingy for the middle, to act as a coin button.

Any other thoughts on colour combos?

Well, looks like I've sourced a nearly new 3ds XL for 160 on Adverts.
Now to convince the missus that its a value for money gift for her Hubby's birfday.

How many different design variations are there now of the 3DS and 3DSXL? Seems to have more than any other console, ever.

Feck, just missed out on the free Super Mario 3D Land promo, but then I already own the physical game so no big loss, it's a pity though as I have many on the list of eligible games already but they are registered.
    Ho hum.

You didn't go for the used XL in the end no?

Oh, I did, cost 160, but it was barely used, codes unused, not updated either, so all good in the hood.
Just doing a system transfer now, going well.

Ah cool. The system transfer is handy enough, takes a while but once it's in progress it's just a matter of waiting. Whats your initial impressions of the XL?

    I'm sorry, I don't do impressions.

Its a lovely thing, the screen looks huge!
Feels like its built for grown up hands as well.
Just had a run around in Ridge Racer and it looks like a new game.
Pity I had to wipe everything from my previous 3DS though.
Is there a way to transfer the virtual console purchases back I wonder?

If they're saved on the SD card can you not just put the card in whichever DS you want to use them in? If you know what I mean.

No but you can ring Nintendo and they can transfer your licenses to your new 3DS. If you copy your SD card to the new SD card your saves will transfer over.

By putting your original SD card into the new 3DS (after a system transfer) you have all your saves/downloads on the new console, without the need to download again. The system transfer completely reformats the source 3ds, and your network ID/account is no longer present on the machine. You can't put any of the downloaded stuff back onto it. If you could you wouldn't really have had to do the transfer in the first place, you could've just signed in with your account on the new 3DS and downloaded everything off the bat.

Picked up the new Vita in Japan and all I had to do was sign in with my PSN ID and put my memory card into it and everything was there, can switch between the 1000 and 2000 models at a whim as a result. Definitely handier!

Got a few things today. These were 3 for €10 in the rage.

And this has been a game in my want list for a long time. Not too common to find a PAL UK copy and at a decent price so snatched it off the shelf as soon as I spotted it. No manual but still very very happy to have it.

This came via Parcel Motel today. :)

It's the official Camera Connection Kit for my iPad Air which basically adds a USB OTG port.
One of the several hidden features of it is that you can connect a USB MIDI keyboard.

So I can learn to play songs in the Synthesia app and play them on my music keyboard. :)

"Hey Waveform, WTF does this have to do with Retro!!!" i hear you ask? :p

Thanks to Synthesia i can import MIDI files from the web.

So instead of learning built in songs like "Mary had a little lamb", I can get songs from vgmusic.com

Heres a little demo video i made...

Recorded this in bed so i had to put my headphones upto the ipads mic, hence the weird audio!

Good God. I remember using a ZX81 at school. This was one of the first games on a computer I ever played, the imaginatively titled Pool.

    I feel so old. :(

I was lucky enough to have sampled the delights of the Atari 400, Vic 20 and, years before, a European pong clone in the 70's.

Wasn't your first computer the Antikythera mechanism?
