Poquelin won a point to point hard held at Larkhill yesterday. Not quoted yet for the Foxhunters and would need to stay but could be a live contender.
It was a conditions event where it beat a donkey 6L hard held in an average time.Gwanako won later by 15L against a previous rated 138 even harder held in the fastest time of the day.

My banker for Cheltenham is Kings Palace in the Albert Bartlett.I have put up Dodging Bullets at big prices for the Arkle and The Tullow Tank for the Neptune at 25/1.There is a horse improving at a serious rate of knots and he is one to keep a very close eye on wherever he runs and that is Captain Cutter from Hendersons yard.I cannot see Annie Power running in the Champion Hurdle and as I posted previous Walsh wanted Boston Bob trained for World Hurdle.Mullins said last year that he makes his mind up 1 week before Cheltenham to where each horse runs so backing any mullins horse for any given race other than the obvious is madness.

Un de Sceaux has close to no chance of winning a Champion Hurdle based upon how he races. It is incredibly difficult to time a front running ride, it is the most difficult tempo to set in a grade 1 and still win. With so many of the field suited to a strong running gallop I'm struggling to see how he could hold off 5 or 6 live contenders from getting past him. Barring freak occurrences it would need to be a perfect ride with perfect sectionals. Give someone a stopwatch and tell them to try it ten times and they'd struggle to get it right once.

I dunno Huntley look at recent years, Overturn and Peddlers both not beaten far and neither to my mind of the calibre of UDS. He ran 2m in 3m55(I know, I know) in yielding without being asked to quicken and being eased, I think it will take something special to pass him.

Will he get an uncontested lead in the Champion? I like the horse but I have an image in my head of some rag taking him on for the first mile and forcing him to pull too hard as a result.

Liking Kumbeshwar for this , he was 3rd 2 years ago when only 5 of a higher mark. He has been stepped up in trip this year hopefully to get him down to a winnable mark.. Ill certainly be on him on the day at hopefully a decent price 33/1 now.. And ive another one up my sleeve if the ground comes up good on the day..

Looking at the ante post market, there might be one/ two outsiders who might but if they try take him on they will be pulled up after a mile.

Not beaten far, but not Champion Hurdle winners. Make A Stand was probably the last one to do so. Rock on Ruby tried to do it last year and Fehily couldn't get the sectionals right, he was forced to get a breather into the horse and it allowed others to get back on terms when the pace collapsed.

Peddlers Cross was probably the most successful in recent times, but he became a front runner in an ad hoc manner so to speak. Overturn went off too quickly and was ignored, the pre race tactics would have actually been for PC to come off a strong gallop set by the designated pacemaker. Even when Overturn tried in 2012 the minute Maguire tried to fill him up Rock on Ruby took it up almost immediately. There is little room for respite for a front runner regardless of their quality. For it to be successful you need to set a consistent gallop which will stretch the field, and at the same time allow enough in the tank for your own mount to finish the race strongly. Achieving that against this field would be nigh on impossible in my opinion.

Un De Sceaux might have place credentials, but in respect of how he races he isn't even entering my analysis as a potential winner.

Nearly every horse in the race likes to be held up bar UDS. I predict a situation similar to CaptainCeeBee at Leopardstown only UDS is a much better animal and very likely to hang on for a place at least imo. I know he's got it all to prove but I'm happy enough having backed him ew @ 25/1 anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,173 ✭✭✭hucklebuck

Another thing to consider is UDS won comfortably which leaves a few unknowns, can he gallop quicker than he did, how he would response to something joining him and how much he finds if any when asked to go.

Anyway I could not resist having some 25 about him before the last day. I find myself with ew AP slips on Our Conor after the Triumph, New One and UDS, hopefully I collect on all 3

See Pipe advertised half shares of
Kings Palace for 30,000 last year on his website!!. Captain Cutter beat Kings Palace in a bumper, should not be ignored. Wish I had seen that before he went in the last day @ 8-1!!

In UDS second ever hurdle race he was 5.8 seconds faster to the fourth hurdle than the field were in the Rabo Bank Champion hurdle grade 1 on the same card at Punchestown. Both he and HF were eased and Hf was 1.7 seconds faster.Mullins back then said"we will keep him to 2m and avoid grade 1s with older horses next year with a view to running him over fences where he will be campaigned in time".

I couldn't believe no one had mentioned this till now. great displays both years, especially the second after everyone had been warned. Didn't RoRuby do it his first year? He was certainly up there.

I dont think Annie Power will go for Mares Hurdle. Could end up beating Quevega so that rules that one out. World Hurdle option depends on Big Bucks performance in the Cleeve Hurdle. If he hacks up I think AP may skip Cheltenham. Big hurdle race in Aintree?

Kings Palace is my banker. Please let me know what will beat him I have 3lbs of The Tullow Tank and 4lbs of Faugheen. Both will run in Nuptune so what will beat the front running Kings Palace where Faugheen will not be allowed to take him on.This looks imo a very serious bet ,get on very bjg tine on my ratiings

UDS seems to be ridiculously overhyped on here.

He's beaten nothing, madness at saying Peddlers Cross isn't in his league over hurdles.

He has a way to go before being mentioned in the same breath as PC.

The Giant Bolster doesnt need to improve at all to get placed in this.. 50/1 looks value..

Cue Card at 8/1 is the most shocking price ive seen in quite some time as he has zero chance of winning.A horse that might run well at a big price is Triolo DAlene at 40/1 expected a bigger price tbo.
