Van Gerwen seems to be coming across as more of a tosser every time I see him being interviewed. Is he letting it go to his head.

Hope Wright pulls off the upset, got him at 80/1 at the start of the tournament, only put a tenner down, but still will be nice if he does it.

Hope you made it each way? Half the odds the first 2, so still a nice 40/1 stroke guaranteed

Who will the crowd go for. Wright is popular also. Van Gerwen is acting bit petty in the interview. Wright seemed to be joking saying who??!

    Nice one. Well done

This is why I fancy Lewis for the tournament. He can live with MvG's purple patches and can punish him when he dips. I wouldn't take any notice of Lewis' last game, he'll bring out the best when he needs it.

That's if either get through :pac:

Meh. There was nothing in it for most of the game bar doubling. He did live with the scoring. Easy to point score after a match, why not pull me up on it at the time?

Nice.....Going to be rooting for him too. He's been amazing so far plus I can't stand the cocky MvG.

If Wright can get MvG rattled like Webster did when he staged a comeback then he's in with a shout.

What are you doing you muppet.

So he shouldn't have an opinion before the match.

    Only having a laugh bud.
Would have said much the same myself to be honest.
Probably the reason why a 6-0 would have fetched odds of 99/1
    Most people thought the same.

Tosser, muppet.. You're running out of names to call people.

He/She was obviously joking. Calm down FFS.

Hello good people of the Darts forum, my first post here :)

Hadn't watched darts in years but fortunately I watched the second semi final this evening. I predicted 6-0 when it was 1-0. If only I were a betting man, I would be rich now :D

For sure I will watch the final now. Pity van Gerwen isn't playing Taylor. That would have been my dream 2014 final.

    Were they.

Seeing as they haven't posted here at all during the tournament I thought it was a bit much to come on slagging people for giving an opinion before the match.

Why would you thank it anyway.

mvg will be 2014 world champion and what a credit he is to the game of darts.

Mad how perceptions change over time. I remember defending Lewis here as everyone slated him with the same criticisms they're levelling at MVG now, now Lewis is somehow a champion of composure and consistency? As a huge fan of his lads, he's not. He's really, really not. Lewis is a momentum player and if van Gerwen hits him with some of his unstoppable play then Lewis' head is just as likely to slump as MVG's is when he builds up a big lead.

I've been saying it all tournament but I don't think we can read too much into van Gerwen's sloppy play tonight. The problems that's caused it over the past couple of weeks (losing interest when he's outclassing players) won't be an issue tomorrow, if Lewis wins of course. The two of them will push each other and hopefully it'll lead to another classic.

    Called it. :p

In all seriousness, that was the performance van Gerwen has been threatening all tournament and delighted he pulled it out when it counts, even if it came at Aidy's expense. That may be one of the best individual performances I've ever seen.

Sets up an absolute cracker of a final too: the best in the tournament so far versus the best in the world.

Lewis has been consistent this year.

People are way overrating Van Gerwen tonight.
He averaged 103 and 58% on doubles.
Wright averaged 100 and 60% on doubles.

Wrights performance vs Smith was better than Van Gerwen tonight and that was under pressure against an opponent who was bang in the match.

You're overrating the stats: van Gerwen played a perfect game, hitting Lewis exactly when it hurt. The 154 checkout while Lewis was sitting on a one-darter in particular was devastating. He played Lewis like a fiddle, knew exactly when to hit him and then actually went out and did it. The fact that he dismantled Lewis while Aidy's was still scoring big and not playing a bad game, after two weeks of Lewis playing fantastically, is proof.

That isn't to take anything away from Wright, he was similarly immense. Whitlock was scoring great early on, but wasn't even getting an outshot, and when he did Wright had him right under pressure so he missed. Both were fantastic performances in their own right.

It's been said already, but people need to stop relying on stats as if they tell the full story. Darts, possibly more than any other sport, is a game where you play the player, not the board. Anyone good enough to qualify for the worlds can hit 12-15 darters, games are won by hitting big shots at the right time. And you can't sum the importance of that up in a percentage.

Keep clutching at straws man, very same as how Lewis won he's world title v the hammer.
Taylor was knocked out that year also and left the door ajare for hammer and the rest in that half.

When mvg is hot,boy is he hottttttt.
Wright only in final cause the power went early, fact.

Mvg Is gonna win the worlds man.
    I reckon 7-3 to mvg :)

You should have been here last year 'cause we had that final. Taylor won. No pity about it not being the same match this year because we're looking at the two players who deserve to be there the most and that's about all you can ask for.

Although I'll be hoping MvG can take his first WC, I hope Wright plays well too because I want to see a good struggle, not a walkover. They're boring for the majority of people.

Of course hitting shots at the right time is huge also.

Lewis gifted him darts at a double in many legs where he got outscored.

Van Gerwen and Wright were equally impressive tonight imo.

What straws, do you even have a clue?
Wright has been amazing all tournament, the best most consistent player and that isn't even up for debate.

Taylor got beaten fair and square by Smith who then played even better against Wright and still got beaten so stop talking rubbish.

Well said. Probably the most psychological sport out there.

Following this Wright will have to make premier league. My prediction is Taylor, mvg, Lewis, Whitlock, Wright, Wade, Barney, chisnall, Thornton, huybrechts

    Anyone know when it's announced?
