When is a man too fit?

In my opinion modern bodybuilders bodies are disgusting, I do however admire the work and dedication required to achieve these bodies...I think the best bodybuilder physique would be Arny back in the day...

With regards to what is too fit for the average joe, it varies from person to person, ideally i'd love to have my bodyfat at 10% with fairly good functional strength and its what i'm working towards at the moment, and in 2014 I'm hoping to get my dedication back on track. as xmas has taken its toll

I guess as with a woman, if his fitness has become such an obsession that it detracts from his quality of life, or reached such a point that it's a disorder (exercise bulimia etc), it's probably "too fit".

Or if he spends more time looking after himself than he does looking after you. A friend of mine once told me that she went out with a guy who was a fitness fanatic. He wasn't massively muscular or anything, but he was a big gym junkie. Anyway they were shagging one night and when he was finished he said, "I wonder how many calories I burned." The love making sessions were starting to turn into fitness sessions, so she broke it off with him. Apparently he was fond of the wheelbarrow position as that required a lot of upper body strength on his part, so it gave him a good work out.

When I bulked up in the past, older women approached me more. When women are attracted to muscular men they are 99% of the time fat or old.

Good looking women are usually attracted to skinny men with model-like faces though. This is a guy I would like to look like. He seems perfect for smashing the 16-21 year old age group (peak of female beauty):

    For mid-to-late 20s, I'd want this physique:

To answer your question, I think being a fitness model is too fit, not to mention professional bodybuilders. Greg Plitt and Ulisses are wayy too ripped for the majority of women. That's why you'll rarely see women fawning over them. Only men.

    Huh?

Calling bullsh1t on that, most of the women I know are wayyyy better looking now (mid - late 20s) than they were as awkward spotty 16 year olds.

Two of the biggest generalisations I've ever heard. Women are attracted to all sorts. Have you never seen a good looking woman in public with a boyfriend or husband that is not a skinny man with a model-like face? I certainly have.

Mid 20s is when women fall off, hard.

Hard to hear but it's generally true.

It's a thread made for generalisations.

Did you spot the fact that I said "usually"? Most good looking women I see are with skinny guy with pretty faces. It's rare to see them with fat or muscular men.

Hard to hear because it's a lie.
Unless you live among a disproportionate amount of hard-drinking, chain-smoking junk food enthusiasts who gave up on giving a sh1t about themselves long ago.
Most people wise up to grooming/skincare/good health as they get older & can afford to take care of themselves.

Beks, we are arguing over opinion and generalisations.

While youth and signifiers of youth are major attraction triggers in women(and men), individuals can vary a lot. I knew guys who were 19 going on 45 in appearance and manner, I've known quite the number of men who were near wrecks by their mid 30's(both from crap genes and abuse) and unless you hang out with major gym bunnies a larger chunk, if not most 40 year old men are pretty bollocksed. And for men there are fewer excuses. We have thicker skin, more testosterone, remain fertile throughout life etc. We should have a ten year advantage on women fertility agewise, yet I know far more 35-40 year old women in half decent condition.

16-21 in women? What are you basing this on? The only thing this could be based on is reproductive fitness and even there you're way off. Upscale it from 20-27 and you'd be closer to that metric. Even then there are all sorts of issues. And the pic of yer man as an ideal? Do you even go outside your door, or do you sit in a state of incessant mental onanism among the weirder and sadder corners of the PUA world endlessly vicariously jerking to the same memes? You lot are so bloody obvious it's sad.

Awaits whiteknighter tag, which aimed at me is beyond funny. :D

    Mischa Barton hardly proves anything.

The signs of a misspent youth don't appear in your mid-twenties while you're still young. I was undoubtedly better looking in my mid to late twenties than my teens. Same could be said for all my mates. We were the gawkiest bunch of awkward teens back then but came into our own in our twenties. I also atracted a lot more attention in that period than I did when I was younger.

A broader version of this question would be vanity in general. How much is too much in that regard? I'd say men are catching up with women in terms of the money they spend on beauty products and treatments etc.

To your second part which is a lot more controversial. Which man are you talking about? The first or the second? You COMPLETELY lost me on the rest of that. Which memes? If you think I do Pick-Up then you're sadly mistaken. The fact that you've looked into PUA if kind of sad tbh. I seen it mentioned on here recently, seems pathetic.

Your first part does come across as extremely whiteknightish (I'm assuming my usage of the word means I masturbate to memes? Still lost on that). As long as men keep their hair they'll age 10x better than women. My empirical evidence is the opposite of yours, we'll leave it at that.

You have said yourself, women have a timer. Therefore why would men be attracted to older women? Younger women are more fertile. The reasoning for men being attracted to them is obvious. They also ruin themselves early on and it seems to hit them physically by the end of University.

Alas, this is an opinionated thread and believe what you want to believe. It's ironic how passive aggressive the people have been in response to my post. Even you, a moderator with that 2nd paragraph to save your damsels in distress? Shocking.

Well Mischa Barton proves your second sentence wrong.

It's all opinionated. Biologically your clock starts to run out at about 30. Aesthetically I believe it's much earlier than that, but it's up for debate I guess.

So one celebrity who appears to suffer with eating issues & gets papped without her makeup on means that all women of 21+ get progressively less attractive by the day?

I actually cant think of more than five girls from my old school year of 100+ women who haven't become more refined, groomed and attractive into their twenties. Lots actually who were still in the "ugly duckling" phase at 18 with bad skin, hair, baby fat etc who subsequently grew to become stunning women.

It does make people look older in fairness. Although I'd prefer being bald and having a decent looking face with good skin to having a big mop of hair and being below average in terms of looks.

    I believe ya. Thousands wouldn't.

You do realise that subjective empirical evidence is a contradiction in terms?
You have said yourself, women have a timer. Therefore why would men be attracted to older women? Younger women are more fertile. The reasoning for men being attracted to them is obvious. They also ruin themselves early on and it seems to hit them physically by the end of University.
A timer. Oh god, this gets better and better. :D Men have a timer too. It's running on average ten years behind women, but it's there. Guys like Charlie Chaplin having kids in his dotage are rare outliers. The vast majority of men at 50 do not start having kids with 30 year old women, never mind 20 year olds. Unless a guy is notably wealthy, looks like George Clooney, is walking the streets of South east Asia with a wad of money, or is very lucky he's out of the reproductive race by 50+. Even guys like this are just as likely to go for women in their 30's/40's.

Not me anyway, though I never had the older woman thing TBH, all my longtermers were between 5 and 15 years younger than me, so that might explain it?
It's all opinionated. Biologically your clock starts to run out at about 30. Aesthetically I believe it's much earlier than that, but it's up for debate I guess.
The average man's testosterone level peaks around 30 and after that the slide is downward(some are suggesting these levels are further dropping year by year from environmental damage). The vast majority of men at around 50 are rocking half the test they had at 20. While women's fertility goes down and then has a cut off point, men's fertility doesn't stop in general, but it most certainly goes down. Quality and quantity of sperm production is on a downward slope by 40 and by 50 it's dropped even more. Again you have outliers, but they're... well, outliers. I have some personal experience in this. My dad was one of these outliers(a couple of uncles ditto). 50 odd when I was born. I didn't much notice anything different as a kid, but looking back he was at least 20 plus years older than every other guys dad. He was a fit and healthy bugger, but he did stand out as unusual.

Fact is, TRT is readily available if testosterone ever became an issue for me. I'd rather age as a man, than a woman if I had a choice. A male menopause is extremely rare too.

Damn it feels good to be a man.
