There have been lots of "new" cars in this thread as of late; 07 Mondeo, the Colt above etc. It seems some cars are beginning to fall into the bangernomice budget. I wonder what previously non-bangernomics cars we'll see in here in the new year?

Id expect to start seeing the 04 to 08 era Lancer start to make more regular appearences - they seem to crop up now at not much over the quota - say the 2,400 to 2,600 mark.

There was an 05 Astra estate in here today - would expect possibly to see those come in at somepoint - possibly more towards the end of 2014 going into the 2015.

Can't be too long before we start seeing facelift Vectra Cs in here either - but haven't priced one up recently so not sure how close they are to getting in here.

They aren't a very desirable car though I would say - among the general motoring public - so prices will only go one way :D.

Your right - when I said 04 - 08 I was referring to the shape/gen Lancer that I was talking about.

Yes they seem to be very decent cars alright from what I can see.

    Decent runabouts

    Volvo 240 GL Estate
    2.0 petrol, automatic
    125k Miles
    NCT 5/14
    €1050
This would make an excellent family bus at under a grand. Auto 'box is a bonus too, I think.

    Test July '14
    Tax April '14
Fierce low mileage claim so usual warnings apply
    Asking €1,050

I suspect your right - these were made during Mercs cutback on quality/rusty era.

I was under the impression that the C class of that era wasn't as bad as the W210 E class though.

How bad are they in reality though - the C class I mean - I know the W210 E class was supposed to be very bad.

Obviously youd need to be checking the car out - or have it checked out - for corrosion.

Best of luck Ardennes44 if you do go for it - work colleague at an old job of mine had one of these 220 diesels in saloon form - very nice ride quality, very smooth and refined for a 4 cylinder diesel from what I recall - never drove it though - only was in it as a passenger

    His was an automatic though.

Think these have a foot operated parking brake.

    2003 Honda Legend
    3.5 V6 Petrol
    100k Miles
    NCT 4/14, no tax (:()
    €1750
Last of the KA9, lovely car. I would at €1500 or so

    1998 Merc S320
    3.2 Petrol, auto
    130k Miles
    NCT 8/14, no tax
    €1400
Cheaper than the Legend with 4 months more test, and as much as I really like this - I'd have the Legend over this. Only by a bit.

I'm just speaking from experience with one car.

My Grandad had one, it was his last car in 2004 - it was 10 years old and rusted rather badly. It hasn't been scrapped yet, it still resided in his wifes garden.

My Dad has 98 E240 W210 since new and to my knowledge it has not rusted.

I know the W210 does rust, but I would have thought the W202 was as bad. As I've said, I'm speaking from experience with one car only.

    2001 Lexus GS00
    3.0 Petrol, auto
    120k Miles
    NCT 10/14, no tax
    €1450
A very cheap 'luxury' car, though I don't think the GS has the same executive feel to it as the Legend or S Class would. A lovely car nevertheless.

False. They're as rustproof as the old W124.

Friend has a 1994 C180, never been rust protected - not a single rust bubble.

As per my post above, I'm speaking with experience with one car (a 1994 C180, coincidentally). Apologies.

It's not false, mercs from the mid 90's are built with poor quality steel. I've seen plenty of newer mercs scrapped due to rust issues. Older mercs such as the w124 fair far far better in this regard in my experience.
