€1750? Take away the 1 and that's more like it.

Lad on here bought an 03 for 1200 last week.

That was 1.6 petrol and if I'm honest well, its a miserable engine in such a car imo.

guys what is the 01 vw passat comfortline 1.9 desiel like, the engine had to be changed this year as the garage guys blew the turbo, it now has a different engine with the what garage claims a milage of 120,000, it has new discs fitted all round, fully serviced by the same garage for the last five years, it is very clean inside and out, with being valated, €1750 is the price, and the nct is until 09/14. thanks for any advice in advance. NB the reason for purchase, well the oil pump has gone in by fabia, and as i cannot walk i need something fast, i tried four garages and all they had was stuff ready for the crusher but with a 3 k price tag

That's a good price. The 130hp(red di) 1.9 is the best engine, very good on juice and quick enough for a daysul. Get it checked over by an independant mechanic with a scanner first. Mileage is probably alot higher on the engine than 120k but once it's not smoking or really underpowered it'll be fine.

They've good low end torque but die an 8 valve death overtaking at 60mph plus. More of an suburban car than the tdi's. That 1.9 130hp is a great engine. One of the few 4 pot diesels I'd drive if someone put a gun to my head :D

Ah you're right it was, my bad.

I'd still say 1750 is too much though.

Thats the price they go for unless it's up around 200k miles.

    This one looks good

Both the petrol and the diesel have 100BHP and thus very similar performance figures. The only reason one would describe the petrol as miserable is if one doesn't like revving over 2k rpm :p

In which case one shouldn't drive petrols ;)

I don't like 1.6 petrol Passats, better get rid of my Honda Legend :pac:

In all honesty though, I think the TDI engine is best suited to that car.

    Horribly true.

After nearly 16 years in an E240 automatic my own father has been speaking about buying a diesel Kia Optima.

    A tad optimistic alright :pac:

    Here's some more;

Not the most informative ad in the world but if all checks out bargain imo. Had one myself and I loved it. Super little car and surprisingly spacious. Not sure what the 1.1 is like but the 1.2 was nippy enough and fun to drive.

I'd look at this myself but i'd be laughed out of the insurance office :pac:

Looking at that engine is causing movement in my nether regions. Fabulous.

    That'd be me Ted!

Seriously though, I don't know why someone would want the petrol over the diesel in that auld Passat

Slightly bigger than a BMW 3 series touring but not much of a load carrier. Nowhere near as roomy as say a Saab 9-5 estate, Audi A4 Avant or Passat estate. Not as comfortable as them either. I've owned a couple of V40's and found them a bit rattly as the years go by.

    94 celica, nct to 8/14, 750 euro

If the car is decent - id still say it makes a decent daily if you don't need 5 door type saloon/hatchback.

    Nice car

Yeah I just mean due to fuel costs ect. From what I've read they are supposed to be fairly reliable.

Is it just me or does the boot look like a hatchback from this angle?

Over the 2k limit but I reckon a bit of bargaining can be done over the scrape on the back door.
