I'd be surprised if Aldi Sud (the half of the company we have here), which trades in the US and Australia as well as most of Europe, doesn't have a corporate jet or two. Their economy or not depends hugely on how much they value their executives and senior managers time.

    http://www.independent.ie/business/irish/tesco-loses-400m-in-battle-with-aldi-and-lidl-29810978.html

'"Our recent introduction of 'Price Promise' in Ireland will help to improve customer perceptions of our relative price position, allowing us to emphasise points of differentiation in our offer," it added'

Quite the opposite, IMO. Every time I bought more than 10 items, I got a refund, stressing how Tesco was more expensive than Aldi or Lidl.
Bought some delicious clementines yesterday in Lidl, 3.99€ for 2 kilos. A kilo box is 2.99€ in Tesco

News about the cheap chicken Aldi is selling is not so good.

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/dec/06/supermarket-frozen-chicken-breasts-water?CMP=fb_gu

To be honest the value chicken all supermarkets are selling is crap and full of water. Not to mention the horrible conditions the animals are kept in.

    Buy free range.

Do Aldi IRELAND import chicken from the UK ?

All of our chicken farmers run their farms in strict accordance with Bord Bia’s animal welfare and quality control requirements and our traceability system means that we can tell you exactly which farm every pack comes from.

BTW the milk in Aldi Austria is mank.

Is it not the case that all budget chicken fillets under go the the same plumping process to increase the weight?

I know from comparing quality chicken breasts here at home, that the free range breasts are smaller and less slimey than the cheap aldi or tesco everyday budget fillets. Plus taste much better .

From a program I seen on TV recently there are different grades as regards how many meters per animal. Im afraid that the cheapest chickens life is far from the life of the free range chicken . Free range have access to the outdoors while the middle and budget chickens may live in a factory like barn.

Maybe the subject deserves its own thread as to what Bord bia standards and definitions are and where Tesco chicken is sourced . I know much of it come from Okanes or Moypark processors

My opinions are my own and not Tesco or Aldis by the way.

Not much action on here recently, says it all about this ridiculous offer, but anyway, got another €1.30 today. Accrued from some wraps (which it killed me to pay tesco's price for, I made the effort to buy 10 items in the hope that this would be refunded.

    1x TESCO 8 PLAIN TORTILLA WRAPS €2.09 €0.89 €0.79

This is becoming one of the most pointless threads ever. We are talking about a pathetic offer and everything posted is a few cents here and there. Why waste time posting up about individual prices with so little difference? Its easy enough to compare when you are in the shop yourself.

With the price of petrol and the value I put on my own time (or rather the value my wife puts on me getting home 30 mins earlier) sometimes that €1.30 just has to be taken on the chin.

    It's not really though.

The point of this thread is to let people know which products are included in the offer, that way, given that Tesco is usually more convenient for the majority of people (more stores), one can avail of aldi/lidl prices without inconveniencing oneself, not to mention the fact that one can also gather clubcard points on tesco's higher prices, whilst being refunded the excess.

    completely agree.

The forum should be for real mark down bargains . Half price and reduced to clear stuff. Not a poxy euro saving difference on a 60 euro shop. And a soapbox for anti Tesco/Aldi to vent their anger.

    Afterhours maybe...

If you don't like this forum, don't use it.

If you don't like this particular thread, dont view it.

This thread deals with the Tesco price match scheme with Lidl and Aldi which seems to have been a marketing disaster for Tesco.

    Tesco seem to be p1ssed.
