Nice! That will be a great gig!

Just checked out MCD and **** me, €80 to see The Eagles? Are they wearing balaclavas or something?

Keen to see the Fun Lovin' Criminals though. Cheap tickets too. Sadly the wife will probably want to go see Milk Curdle or Peter Andre or some guff nancy boy like that instead. :(
I saw them in Limerick was it 3 years ago? they were fantastic and afterwards very helpful me find each other so I'd have all their autographs.

Have you no friends you could drag along? twice I went to stuff since one if the lads had tickets and no one else could go.

or go to the Nancy boy stuff in exchange to go to what you want see.

Oh it's insidious isn't it. Because of PS+, I went from having a PS3 on CFW & all that goes with it if I was that way inclined, to selling it & getting a brand new PS3, a Vita, & now a PS4. It's amazing value

This is how I'm feeling about gaming these days... :pac:

    It's a Christmas miracle! ;) Thanks An Post! :D

    fm2z.jpg

Also received this, a gold Super Famicom RGB cable with RCA breakout, wired for pure sync. Pre-ordered it the second the pre-order email landed in my inbox, so the first handful of customers get gold connectors free of charge! :D

    fm1d.jpg

Also have something waiting for me in 'the motel'. I may have a crisis tonight when I go to collect it... :pac:

Well, on a more modest note I picked up Tomb Raider for the ps3 in GS for 16, I've been meaning to pick out up.
I had wanted their copy of Time Crisis 4 but there was no Guncon 3 with it, so it was pointless. I already have the unsatisfactory Move version.

Pleased to see this arrive at last. Got Strider, Revenge of Shinobi, Gain Ground, Valis III, E-Swat, Crying and Puyo Puyo complete as well.

The joypad is buggered though I'll have to open it up and see can I noodle with it a bit. I'm probably going to play mostly with a PS1 stick and connector anyway.

Picture quality doesn't seem fantastic. I'm getting a fair bit of humm noise as well. Maybe it's just that I haven't turned on my CRT in like 6 years and I've forgotten. I got a scart cable from these guys ( http://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/sega-mega-drive-1-sega-genesis-1-stereo-rgb-av-scart-cable-tv-lead.html ). The auction was listed as untested maybe my machine is iffy. I'll have a noodle around with it later on and maybe plug in my Gamecube to see does that look better and diagnose the problem.

    Thanks sparks43(and helper) :)

Tell me about this PS1 to MD adapter? Home made or bought? I'd love to be able to use the Namco stick on the MD, that would be excellent.

retrogamingcables make quality gear so be surprised if it was the cable itself.

I've seen PS1 to Amiga adapters about. Should work on the Megadrive as they're both just DB9.

Would be really lovely using that Namco stick on a Megadrive alright.

How are you powering it? Are you using that Japanese PSU in the box along with a step down transformer?

Might be worth trying an EU PSU with it instead.

At a guess only Fire 1 would work, Amiga uses the old Atari setup so the Megadrive is backward compatible with it but not the other way around.

Not a big deal to build one of these, its effectively what I'm doing on the supergun stuff.

Found a PSX to Megadrive adapter on Tototek so that should do the trick hopefully. Can't for the life of me play shmups with the MD joypad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭Shapey Fiend

The Tototek adaptor is the one I'd recommended to me. No lag apparently.

I'm using a cheapass power adaptor I got from Hong Kong for a fiver. Probably the source of the problem.

I've got a pretty rusty Namco stick. It's a bit gummed up from a flatmate spilling Fanta into it as well. Going to try strip it down and repaint it one of these days. Maybe replace the stick buttons with arcade parts and do up some minimal Mega Drive-ish artwork if I'm feeling particularly ambitious. Gotta learn to solder somehow.

I trust this is a now expired flatmate....
We'll probably hear of a body being found in the boglands of Connemara with a bottle of fanta shoved up its jacksy!

All depends which generation of 'batman' pad you go with.

It doesn't seem to be common knowledge the massive difference in performance between the early ones and the later Megadrive 2 ones. Early ones are all ruined and unplayable at this stage, the later ones are really lovely :)

Although, you still can't beat a stick for a shmup of course! Wouldn't mind one of those adapters myself. The less sticks and more adapters the better, they really do take up a lot of space.

The dude was happy to play 5 hour of marathons of Super Turbo with me even when his (cute) girlfriend was haranguing him to go to bed so he's a saint in my eyes, even if if he gummed up my pride and joy. Cost me the pricely sum of €7 in Smyths (circa Virtua Fighter 4's release), it was pretty rusty though.

The 720p scan lines on the SFC through this are worth the asking price alone. It is expensive, but what amount would you have spent on older consoles and games over the last few years. It's a once off buy to improve the display of all your consoles and I would not be without one now. Until you actually see what is does to the display of 240p on a panel tv, you think it's going to be good but it's even better.

Not sure which version I have other than it being a 6 button, it's in minty condition but it's just the fact it's a dpad rather than a stick that makes it awkward. Same with the Saturn pad, as great as it is, it's rubbish compared to the HSS-0136 for shmups. In my opinion anyway, guess it's just what I'm comfortable with now.

That stick is awesome as it uses an LS-56-01. :)

Ahhh righty. I haven't disassembled enough 6 button pads to see the variation between them. Must do actually just to see.

Dare I say it, I'm not the biggest fan of the Saturn pad (and the Megadrive small 6 button pad)

There's no denying they're amazing pads, I just find them a bit small and uncomfortable for long periods of time. So it's probably more the fault of my hands than the pads :D

Did you pick up a HSS-0136 yeah? Really lovely sticks aren't they? Great for blasting through Garegga.

Have to agree here! I have two MD1 pads and one MD2 Pad.

Even though the MD2 Pad is fairly beat up and the d-pad feels loose,
    it's still extremely responsive.

The two MD1 pads I have are actually in better condition cosmetically, but the buttons and d-pads are stiff and must be pushed much harder to get a response out of them.

I think the MD2 pad has a much longer cable too which is also nice.

Wow, Liberation Maiden is pretty nice, just played the first mission and it seems a blast, and for 4.99 as well.
Galaxy Force II is lovely, the 3D is well implemented, and shows that it's not only Nintendo that can properly utilise Nintendo USPs!
Just such a pity about Sonic Lost Woods

Gave me a fright for a second there but it's HAA-2510 and Google informs me this is a Japanese version.

Pulled everything out and plugged it back in again now the picture is great. I had a bit of banding yesterday. Only niggle is I can see the debug line of flickering pixels on the bottom left. Guess it's having a post 2000 flat CRT. I suppose I can colour them in with a permanent marker...

Philips screwdriver was too big to take screws off joypad. Went down town to get another one. Get home realise I can only take half of the screws out cos the top ones are too deep and they didn't have a daintier screwdriver to sell me. *facepalm*

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,214 ✭✭✭STG.Otaku

No. The flicker is supposed to be there. It is normal Mega Drive overscan (which you can neatly mask with the Framemeister :D).

    By the way...

Haven't bought that much stuff over the last half year or so but here's some pics of a few bits.

First up is a new addition to the CRT family (sadly a dying breed round these parts :(), a Sony BVM-2016P, far left and hooked up to the supergun. Excellent picture.

    nkFnwlml.jpg

It has a pull out panel with lots of settings for adjusting the picture:

Got a female scart to bnc cable from retrogamingcables, so I have the supergun RGB scart plugged directly into this, meant I could do away with the sync strike and vga to bnc cable.

    Some close ups:

The games room also doubles as an office which needed some colour added to the walls. Found these on redbubble, frames are Ikea. :o
