And the racist mayor is back with a bang

Just heard this nut job mayor Darren Scully is back once again on Niall Boylan (don't ever listen to this show good god my god)

This is the guy who said he wouldn't represent black Africans because they were aggressive... lost Fine Gael party whip because of it... and now welcomed back with open arms... AND here we go again, looks like he hasn't learned his lesson...

After the event, the good thing that came out of all this, was that I was contacted by a lot of groups and organisations, particularly from the African community themselves. I met with a few individuals, and it’s kind of funny: I met with one gentleman who was from Uganda, and he said to me if you had said that you wouldn’t deal with any more Nigerians, you would have been perfect, you know? He said ‘we’re Ugandans and we hate Nigerians’. Same way other people from other African countries say ‘we hate Nigerians’ because of the way they come across: their cultures, their traditions.

Ah sure he met one Ugandan person who hates Nigerians so it's fine for him

    And then this beauty:
I said black Africans. Now I really shouldn’t have even said black Africans. I should have said certain people from a certain part of Africa. That’s what I should have said. And the mistake was that I generalised. I said all black Africans. And that was a mistake. But I had issues, issues with certain nationalities, which I’m not going to discuss now. There’s no point. Certain nationalities from the continent of Africa who are very demanding. And I had been thrown the race card several times. Now, I don’t like that. I don’t like being bullied and threatened by any person. And that’s what really kind of annoyed me

Does he think it's somehow better to say discriminate against certain African countries instead of "all" black Africans? Well, a little better I suppose...

Worst thing is people will agree with this clown

no I'm not but if we left the minorities to fend for themselves then we'd still be stuck in the dark ages ...

I would think this guy would hate dealing with most americans also as they can get very vocal and animated and all up in your face when asserting their welfare and other entitlements and rights etc

He's wrong and right in a way. I believe he is talking about the other countries as any other country, the fact he said black doesn't help. To make a sweeping generalisation that everyone from a certain country is demanding, well that was wrong too, but it's just like me saying I hate everyone from cavan. I don't think he meant to be racist but it does come across a bit racist as he brought skin colour into it.

Now that's just a silly thing to say. Look at the Irish in America, they were left to fend for themselves and they done alright. They thrived really. Line up 10 Americans and atleast one will have some Irish roots.

fair point but I'm sure there were definitely people to stand up for the Irish too. like I just don't think racism is right. don't get your argument like, but I do see where you're coming form

In some countries and cultures it is the done thing to be quite aggressive to the point of being abusive or even violent with officials you deal with over health or other benefits and entitlements. That is all this poor man was trying to get across.

Ex-mayor should print out some fliers to explain the cultural differences to people arriving in Dublin airport.

I suspect a lot of people will be getting the same flier, week in, week out.

Well he can't be called a racist if he discriminates based on nationality.

Some African immigrants have an unemployment rate of 35% vs 6% for Chinese. I have never once heard a Chinese person demanding a house or welfare from the state. There is tens of Chinese in Ireland and you never hear of any issues with them. The same cant be said for other nationalities.

    This case always intrigued/worried me.

In this country, politicians can be blatantly corrupt, proven liars, openly greedy, incompetent and utterly useless (to an extent that would see them banished from Westminister instantly) yet still retain their jobs. This person expresses some negative, ignorant views on a minority and he's out on his ear in record time.

The worrying part is that another political figure (who isn't black or African) then reported his comments to the Gardai and publicised the fact in an apparent attempt to demonstrate how wonderfully 'tolerant' and 'liberal' he is.

We're on a slippery slope when one citizen feels compelled to report another to the authorities and criminalise him for expressing a view he personally finds distasteful.

the attitude that only victims of racism should report racism, and that any form of racism is acceptable, as put forward by some, is totally unacceptable.

Have a good look at yourself.
