The scammers must be working overtime this week I listed a phone on donedeal last night and have had 3 texts already, offering €100 over asking price and asking me to send my paypal details >:(
These con artists are going to ruin donedeal for genuine buyers and sellers

Don't know if it's been said yet but I know how this works as I know someone who was the victim of this scam while selling an X box on done deal. They send you an email that has a masked address which looks like it's from PayPal telling you that you have received funds. (they really like people that haven't used PayPal before so that they are unfamiliar with how it works). If you're naive enough you'll send the item via registered post as requested. This is where it gets really good. At this point not only have you sent an item that you haven't been paid for, but you then get another "PayPal" email regarding an error in transfer of funds. You are requested to make a payment of €150 to the buyer (the logic is explained hilariously but I can't remember now) and this will rectify the error. Oh yes, they actually tell you that you've been over payed by a 150 quid, that's why you're sending money back.
You would need to be very very naive to fall for all this but I'm sure there are many done dealers that would. I think it's sick that they not only rob your goods but then take your money too.

They get very irate after stringing them along for a while.

I've been called a stupid white monkey, and have had various black magic spells and curses placed on me so far. :pac:

The Trophy room at 419 eater is just magnificent.

There's one in there where the "scammee" pretended to be the pastor of the "loaves and fishes" church, and said he would be happy to help, provided the scammers proved their devotion to his church by posing with loaves & fishes.

Find the photos, wet yourself laughing.

    Opinions on this guy's.

Currently selling couch on done deal.

Got a text this morning enquiring about the colour etc, rang your woman back to talk (i find its better to talk than text) she didn't answer, but sent a text to say she's in work and couldn't talk.

I reply by text and tell her colour etc, then she sends back this.
The colour is perfect for me, however live in Limerick and wd be willing to have it couriered without seeing it bcos it is absolutely perfect. Cd I ask what ur bottom price would be (collection is approx 100 and Monday nxt it can b collected). I am willing to have a postal order drawn up today and post it to u which means u will have full payment 2 Moro. I will leave it with u and wait to hear from u.
    Thank u v. much
    m

I've replied that a postal order would be fine, but obviously I'd not give couches to couriers until the postal order was converted to cash.

Would this be a potential scam?

Now offering to pay it via bank transfer........

Anyone know of any potentially dodgy ways this could bite my ass?

My favourite one is where the guy got the scammer to read lots of the Harry potter books aloud and record himself. Then he put the recordings online and you can go in and listen to them. It's brilliant :)

Bank transfer should be ok. Can't be reversed unless you give your written authority.

I also have had contact from this guy. Received a text from that comes up from "Brouder" asking about the price of an ipod and to email him. Replied and got the following email from davederby12@yahoo.com ...

"Am okay with the price of the item.I will like the shipping to be handle by Post Office so i will add up the shipping cost, also I will be doing the payment Paypal money transfer. do send me your PayPal Email ID with Name or send me paypal money request.
To proceed with the payment for the item.
So i wait to read from you soon."

    Definitly seemed a little odd.

Declan is quite famous at this stage. String him along for a few days. Might tie him up from scamming some other poor soul.

I was trying to sell a car in Oz 3 years ago and got contacted by text message four times in two weeks, each of them was a scam. Each time I did a search online for their phone number and got a list of scam complaints as a result.
Yesterday I put an ad on Done Deal for a netbook and got a phone call last night about it. I gave rough directions to the town I live, but didn't give the address. He just sent me a text message asking me to email him. I did a search for "james.b401@yahoo.com" and found this thread at the top of the list
I'll be ignoring it. I might ask him if he's in the navy first...

I was thinking of selling a few things on adverts to try and get some cash for Christmas. Crap like this just puts me off.
Some of the items I have in mind are small and just easier to send in the post. But I am half afraid of someone opening a paypal dispute and getting shafted.
How often does scamming happen on the likes of adverts, etc?

I've bought & sold a couple of things on Adverts with no issues, but the first time I got contacted about an item I was selling on Done Deal was from a scammer...

Ignore him, or let him know that you are on to him. I was nearly involved in a scam, and had the bank not have sent the sterling cheque back, saying there was no mandate, I would probably have went ahead and lost a couple of thousand euros. It was my first time being involved in this so I was pretty naive. I remember the guy got pretty angry too, because he wanted me to take the money out on the day I lodged it, even though I kept telling him it takes a few weeks to have a sterling cheque lodged in my account.
So In my experiance, I would not troll him because you could piss him off even more.

Same here, I have no issues with Adverts.ie, while with the likes of Gumtree and Done Deal, I have heard of tons of scams going on those sites. Adverts.ie are probably good at recognizing them straight because when you report something, they actually listen to you and take action.

Same here, but the "Navy officer" or "mother with son abroad" made a mistake in the beginning to make contact with me 2 times and both messages was similar and even contained an identical part about how safe is the PayPal.

    The e-mail addresses are:
    verynavylife44@outlook.com
    james.b401@yahoo.com

    The address for shipping:
    DANIEL FERGUSON
    C/O ILAVBARE .O.
    17,peace street,
    City:Ibadan
    State:Oyo-State
    Zip Code: 23402
    Country: Nigeria.

Seems to be he got angry when i let him run for a while, then i revealed i know exactly he just wanted to fool me, and PayPal got a report already. I always check PayPal balance not e-mails, and the guy clearly not a Photoshop expert, the fake e-mail he sent about the transfer look like a poor replica. Phone numbers appear on mobile means nothing this days because there are many voip programs for PC, and you can set up anything you like to appear on the screen of the phone you call. At least one thing you can do about this because PayPal seems not doing a thing to stop them (they know where the items are shipped, bank details as well).
So just sign up for the email addresses for as many junk, or newsletters on the internet as you can and let them hang on, certainly make scamming more entertaining ;-)

You could send Maria's address to James and James's address to Maria :D
Could be the same person, but at least they would leave you alone.
