Bothár - Communist Cows

I'm sick of hearing the feckin Bothár Christmas ads already. I think it's a stupid charity and a stupid idea that will just do more harm than good to the countries they're supposedly trying to help. Giving free cattle (Irish cattle, not even locally sourced) is just going to destroy the local market prices and domestic growth. The communist nonsense continues when they expect the receiving family to hand off the new born calfs...

Bothár refuse to disclose the salary of their CEO.

If your going to donate to a third world charity, pick one that focuses on healthcare and water quality.

    One question.

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

Those socialist fire stations are hotbeds of reactionary communism.

Beware of Communist infiltration of the farming community. They are ripe for revolution.

How many animals could they buy locally for the cost of shipping from Ireland.
They do chickens and bees as well apparently.

ITT: Someone has discovered the word "communist" and is using it to try and look smart.

They over Irish animals as Irish cows produce more milk than their ****ty ones. But I can't understand why charities don't teach them family planning as their governments don't do it. We give money to Uganda for development, but yet the average women has 7 children. Countries like Iran and china used family planning to kick start economic growth and it worked.

Not meaning to be that guy, but the fada is meant to be on the other vowel... :(

China aren't exactly a shining example of how to family plan.

Should have used this for their ad campaign instead. Send them cows over and freak out the Africans!

Surely this would be Bóthar? The standard of Irish is sadly lacking, more so when the poster tries to do it right but simply fails to comprehend the purpose of the sine fada.

i did this one year.. however, i was then bombarded, and i mean bombarded with very high quality, high gloss brochures top of the line stuff, every few months.

I decided then I would never give them another penny (or animal).

The average yield of local cows is about 300 gallons. The average yield of Irish cows is over 1100gallons.

Local cows have a 6 month lactation length. Irish cows have an 11 month lactation length.

The average local cow calves first at 3 years old. The Irish cow calves at 2 years old.

The local cows male animals produce carcase yields of c.200kgs at 30 months. Irish cows male calves produce over 300kgs at 30 months.

All the families that receive a cow get a lot of training on feeding and managing the cows and allows them to build up numbers quickly and produce food for their families own consumption and income from sale of surplus to feed clothe and educate their children. In return for this gift, they have to pass on the first heifer calf to another family in repayment for the first animal.

I visited a friend working in a related programme about 20 years ago and the difference this animal makes to a family is immense. There are queues of people waiting for an animal every year. Luckily most people can discern the truth of the matter.

I send out an animal myself every 3 or so years because i have seen the difference one animal can make to a family with absolutely nothing to their name.

IMO Africa would be much better off if the rest of the World would get its dirty greedy mitts off of its Natural Resources and leave it the fúck alone.

Sending a cow when you are raping the place is like giving a microwave to a homeless person.

It's an opinion, but there is so much corruption and incompetence that they at least need lots of help. I think it's a pretty big stretch to say that if everyone fecked off and left them alone they'd be fine.

Would it not make more sense though to put money into breeding programmes for local breeds (that are more suited to climatic conditions) and giving those to the locals?

Totally mis-guided exercise which ties people into subsistence farming.
A charity run and funded by stupid people.

There's a lot we should be doing to try to alleviate poverty in Africa - sending over ****ing cows is not one of those things.
