what is wrong with a large section of todays society that nothing will snap them out of their bubbles and make them join their fellow brothers and sisters in showing we care about a given subject enough to gather in large numbers until the message gets across. i've heard so many petty excuses from so many that at this stage i've just given up on our ability to do anything to stop the madness.

my number one has to be ; "i'm going to start a protest against the protestors" and funnily enough it never happens

    baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

It's too wet and cold to protest.

Not another one of these 'burn the bondholders' threads. We should protest about social welfare abuses and public sector largesse.

Some people prefer to sit back and let others put their neck on the line. They'll bitch and moan in the background saying something needs to be done, then when people actually do something they'll give out about them.

And who are you decide that there is something "wrong" with those who chose not to march about in loony leftie organized "protests" (usually hijacked by Eirigi/SF and the like).

where was it mentioned to "burn the bondholders"?

what really gets me is more people will show up on the streets for arthurs day than say the death of an Indian lady denied a life saving abortion because she was in a "catholic" hospital!

there's so many reasons to join forces in this country yet we are where we are!!

sure they're only "loony leftie organized "protests" (usually hijacked by Eirigi/SF and the like)" because the majority don't bother their arse to go along. so if all protests so far have been "loony leftie organized "protests" (usually hijacked by Eirigi/SF and the like) and lets face it their attendance is never massive, if only a small percentage of average joe soaps got off their ar$es they could outnumber the loons 10:1 very easily. who's in control of the protests then eh??

ara you're talking out of your hole now mate cos i've been involved with quite a few protests the last few years and although i'm half signing on i've never been approached by any political groups and again if the sheeple attended in numbers there would no fear of the protest being "hijacked" by "loons"

I think people are so worn out by working and worrying and striving to some how
make ends meet that they just can't cope with having to go to protests.
Also its the whole " sure there will be enough people there without me ".
Also people are hurting themselves so much it is hard sometimes to care bout other people's troubles.

A lot of people have jobs, families or other important commitments that don't allow them to join the rabble rousers outside the Dail. You may have plenty of time since you're on the dole but most people don't. (Not have a go at you for being on the dole btw)

A lot of it is to do with the innately nice, easy going nature of Irish people. We don't like to be a bother, whether that entails complaining about cold soup in a restaurant or protesting on Kildare st. We just arent a highly strung race of people, like say, the French.

Simple answer there, The overspending on social welfare, overpaid public "servants", general abuse and waste of public money has us where we are. The bank bailout, bad and expensive as it was, was a one off, which could have been paid for if we weren't running a large deficit to keep the non-productive sections of society in the fashion to which they had become accustomed.
Anyone who understands business or finance will tell you that one off large expenses don't sink you, its the long term repeated waste and mismanagement which ruins profitability.

On topic, more scummers blocking OConnell Bridge, which is what the OP seems to want, making decent hardworking people walk home after paying their taxes to support these vermin isn't going to help, and 99% of society understand this.

I normally ask for a definition of "loony leftie" at this point, but no one ever bothers to answer, so I'll let it slide.

Strange thing is, you never hear of a "sensible right-wing" protest...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

a right wing protest ( akin to the tea party movement in America ) would never work here as most irish people are statist in outlook , plus the media hate right wing ideals and would potray it as something sinister

Which is the reason why a lot of people believe the French have amongst the best quality of life. The government fears the people, whilst in Ireland and many other countries the government seemingly couldnt care less.

I know the headwrecking, obstruction-causing types some people are referring to here, but you can't say without challenge that all protesters are like that; you simply can't.

And "looney leftie" - wtf is this? A Richard Littlejohn column?

shocking scenes here of Brittany protests but as you said yourself no government can afford this to go on for too long so they back down ar at least be fair to the people they work for

meanwhile in Ireland our "government" must be pi$$ing themselves at the lack of fight in the majority fo the country

    baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The bank bailout was a one off payment? So, we have it all paid off now?

    Grand so.

no it isn't!! for the love of all that is good these are isolated incidents and with the lack of any alternative at any protest people might be forgiven for thinking this is as good as it gets

    baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!
    sheeple

if you want to engage with people you could start with not using the word "sheeple" to desribe people who don't protest

    it is embarassing
