Since we are poking into other peoples business today...

How much time did you wait between your first date and your wedding vows? And, if you have reached that stage yet, between your wedding vows and getting divorced/separated?

I have been going out with my baby daddy for 11 years now… I am pretty sure there must be people who have met their wife/husband, dated, got married and gotten divorced in that time… and probably dated and married again, if I am honest...

sorry, don't know how to do that poll

First time, thirty.months first date to wedding vows, which she forgot five years later. The divorce took two years. So it was just over nine years between first date.and decree absolute.

Second time, six years and one baby between first date and wedding. Married for seven years now. Second time around I married my best friend.

You know, not all women are obsessed with getting married and what the dress/flowers will be like. It is a myth that all women want to marry their partners.

I've been married twice. Both times I was dating a little over a year. I like being married although I do understand why some people wouldn't. I also second only marrying your best friend!

    Dec '99 to May '03.

So that's errrm.....3-and-a-half years. 6 months of that was long-distance relationship with the memsahb in Dublin and me in London. I really enjoyed popping over here every other weekend.

    Now I'm bleedin' stuck here!

I should point out, in case herself reads this, that we are ten years happily married!

I suspect this is going to strongly depend on the age the people in the couple were when they got together, or more specifically the woman, if she intends going down the traditional courting, wedding, children timeline.

If two teenagers get together at 16, if they make it work, they may not feel the need to get married until ten years later, or perhaps even longer.

However, should the two get together at 30, (not to mention 35) then it's a whole different ball game and you often see shotgun weddings from 1-3 years after they first start dating.

I would imagine for most people it's around 5-6 years however, especially if they meet in the 25-30 bracket, when they have time to get to know each other without having any biological urges to settle down and start a family the day after.

Of course, bear in mind, these estimates are based on the assumption that the couple is of similar age. With age gaps, there are totally different factors that have to be taken into consideration.
