    Martinez died in part due to being a major part of Philips past......main reason he died is the same reason Pete died

    Not being a strong enough leader. Thats something that was shown in the camp scene but if people choose to skip it they will obviously fail to understand. Petes desicion lost supplies Philip could have provided the Chalmers with. The Chalmers are Philips main concern now. (made obvious during Live Bait). This is Petes faults for not doing the bad things to survive. Same is shown when Martinez offers Philip a co leader role. Martinez was not a strong enough leader. These weaknesses proved a danger to the Chalmers. Philip couldnt have that so he eradicated the weak and made Mitch who wanted to raid the camp as his number two as he saw Mitch as strong enough to make the survival decisions. I thought that much was actually obvious from the episode haha.
