A top 50 list without a mention of Super Mario Bros 3, Half Life, Thief, System Shock or Deus Ex. Fair enough Human Revolution got a mention but still.

I expected cringes going in and I wasn't disappointed. By my count 33 of the 50 were released in the last 5 years, no surprises for guessing when the author began his gaming hobby. :rolleyes:
A great piece to exemplify why mainstream gaming journalism is never taken seriously or paid attention to, the primary audience are probably very light gamers who needed recent game or milestone older games mentioned to keep their interest.
A couple of points to him for at least writing his own list and not just being populist and throwing Ocarina, FF7 and Half Life to the front of the line like everybody seems to do.

It was never going to be a kind of 'gamers gamer' list. I would have a different list just like everyone else but I think he's trying to look at the bigger picture, probably failing, but I think that's what he is trying to do. Angry Birds allows 5 year old girls to be gamers. Plants vrs. Zombies allows OAP's be gamers. Mariokart allows a family be gamers together. Fifa means lads can sit around drinking and be gamers and so on.

GTA 3 did change how gaming was done in my opinion, what was there like it before hand that had an open 3D world like it. Tetris changed how gaming was done. Super Mario Bro's get a mention, Resident Evil 2 should be there, Pac-Man needs its place, so does a Street Fighter (IV) and a Battlefield (3).

Just sayin'.

Video games have been around in a mainstream way since the early 70's. That's hardly "new".

That list is a bit mental alright, some really odd choices. Halo 3? "groundbreaking"? Whut?
