54 million a year goes from Burtons department straight into RTE's coffers. If that isn't a conflict of interest, i don't know what is.

hatched job though, pure and simple.

sean was looking after the people that pay his wages there. ya can almost see the hand of pat rabbite.

turned over to pat on the back of it. STILL no sign of the ESB management on this issue which is just bad journalism at this stage. im no fan of olge but it takes two to tango and the medias let the employers off time and again.

How was it a Hatchet job? Sean just played Ogle tapes of speeches he made. It was Ogle's own words that exposed him as an extremist socialist working to an agenda beyond the ESB pensions and he did not recant a single word. He just seemed annoyed that a tape of a "private speech" (can a speech in front of a large crowd be private) was recorded and played back to the public. Sean was factual and balanced. It is Ogle that seems to be trying to do a hatchet job on this country for some sort of political ideology. The people needed to hear that today. And more importantly the ESB workers needed to hear exactly who is leading them and what his true motivation is (and it has nothing to do with them or their "spoiled" working lives).

No, he didn't recant a single word. He recanted the whole speech, and said that he had already apologised to people for it.

The demonisation of individuals is not a good way to conduct public discourse. Whatever people think of Brendan Ogle, the real issue is the management of the ESB pension fund, and I don't think that has been properly clarified.

Are you for real ? Ogle would set his bladder on strike cutting off the urine supply to his penis if it ever dribbled on him.

oh hes mad as a march hare, but i know a behind the scenes machination at this stage when i see it.

expect the pet rabbite to be luv bombing one of the media outlets before the days out.

    if it hasnt happened already.

Exactly, whether you like Mr Ogle or not is irrelevant - the issue is what matters & on that he is absolutely correct.

If it's all so irrelevant & inconsequental why do it at all? Would love the answer to that Q

If you actually look at the list of professional board sitters who run this country it is actually a far smaller list of names than list of positions.

Shocking performance from hisself, I thought. Clearly thought he was presenting some sort of iron-clad rebuttal, but essentially all he had to offer was that he wasn't a FF Golden Circler, he was a FG Golden Circler, and that it wasn't a "top up" if he repeatedly asserted it wasn't a "top up". Clearly while people in the HSE had to take pay cuts, and people in the private sector might do too, it's utterly inconceivable that people in the quasi-public, quasi-private, quasi-charitable sector do so. Well, thanks Des. Game, set and match to him -- in his own mind.

Wasting all this time investigating one bag egg in a Garda station. If they want to investigate proper collusion why dont they reopen the case of the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan Bombings, where an organised team of British public servants killed innocent children on our streets.. You wont hear Donaldson on when they are discussing that.

"all the property passes to me"..

He might not be so smug when he gets his local property tax bill for next year.

So Brendan, have you taken the gun away from the head of the old person sitting at the electric heater? The State needs to change legislation to prevent the ESB from striking. They are very well taken care of by their employers, if they dont like it they should try get a job in the real world..

Jasus but Ogle is s spiteful little man. Even with a resolution of the dispute he can't say a positive thing about any other human being.

If my company was treating the workers badly then Ogle is just the man i'd want in my corner in fairness.
No pussy-footing around the issue with him.

He never seems to be conflicted about whose side he's on ... probably the only senior trade unionist with any credibility. I'd far rather have him on my side in a negotiation than across the table from me :)

Liked the bit when the fella being interviewed (who was it, BTW?) asked his 80-something year old mother what she thought about the Bill Clinton sexual scandal. She read all the reports in detail and her conclusion?

    "Men are dogs"!
