People are still listening to and attending gigs by The Who despite the fact that Pete townsend is a nonce

Is he? Why did they release him with caution after finding that he didn't possess any child pornography so?

Not sure as to the ins and outs of that case, turns out he was put on the offenders register.

It probably isn't worth explaining the difference between the 2 to you, as I susoect you are trolling.

However....Townsend was posting anti child abuse stuff on his own blog, he paid 7 quid to subscribe to a site based on research. Police found nothing on his PC, no images, nothing. He received a police caution and told that curiosity or research didn't give him the right to sign up to the site.

Obviously, even to you surely, Watkins has just admitted to much worse crimes that hardly need to be spelt out for you again.

Holy hell. I'm truly shocked. I heard about this a while ago, but it slipped my mind again until now. That is some completely depraved, horrifying sh*t. Seriously, babies. I can't even...

Yer man aside, what about those women "offering" their children to him?? What the bloody hell is wrong with them? I don't know anyone who wouldn't be homicidal at the thought of someone violating their children, much less offering them to a pedophile. How do these people even end up meeting each other??

It seems that everyone involved is a danger to society. Hope they don't see the light of day again.

And I do feel sympathy for his former bandmates. They more than likely knew nothing of this (pedophilia is not something people tend to go on about in public), and now their careers are destroyed and they're going to always be associated with this sick individual. Hard to pick yourself up again after something as terrible as this.

This song in particular seems pretty messed up now:

I always thought that was just a particularly f*cked up video...jesus.

You can't even mention Pete Townsend in the same breath as this guy...

This is an EXTREME case. I love all the "kill him, tortue him" posts, if anything this guy should be studied to find out what exactly is wrong with his brain so perhaps the information retrieved can in the future prevent this from happening again.

Well, from the wiki description here the rest of the band members should be asking themselves what they went along with in order to be controversial and provocative.

Not saying they were in on it, but they would want to ask themselves a few questions if the wiki decription is accurate here.

True but chances are the band themselves had fairly minimal input in the video (i.e. it was written and directed by somebody hired by the record label)

They appeared in it, at some stage I would have been thinking, ...hang on, this is a bit off, stop the cameras. Not up for this.

Never heard any if their music.

Sometimes being past it really does reap benefits.

Some of the comments from LP fans on Youtube:
I will be a Lostprophets fan until the day I die, no matter what Ian did, if he even did it. I'm not "in denial", I'm just looking at every possibility. Besides the point, I will always be grateful I was able to enjoy their music and be a fan at all.
I love Lostprophets but I wanted to know more about and the singer Ian and when I looks him up. Is this thing about raping babies and him being on suicide watch true. What the **** Happened? I hope that Ian comes out on top of it and gets back into music.

^Crikey, the only thing I can compare that to is either Buffalo Bills fans around the OJ Simpson trials and new nazis/hardcore stalanists

Feed the scumbag feet first into a wood chipper and send his head off to be analysed to what if any defects lie within.

They issued a statement when they split up, kept it brief.
    To our fans:

After nearly a year of coming to terms with our heartache, we finally feel ready to announce publicly what we have thought privately for some time. We can no longer continue making or performing music as Lostprophets. Your love and support over the past 15 years has been tremendous, and we'll be forever grateful for all you've given us. As we look forward to the next phase of our lives, we can only hope to be surrounded by people as devoted and inspiring as you guys have been.

His guilty plea seemingly came out of the blue today, the band called it a day last month:

Their initial statement after he was arrested was this one:
Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers.

    a) they were in a band with a sex offender for how many years and had no inkling what he was like, yeah fair enough if you believe that, I don't

    b) the f**ker was arrested ages ago and rather than disband straight away they hedge their bets until just before it goes to trial.

    Miserable morally dubious f**kwits

So by that standard if your boss/colleague had engaged in a similarly vile twisted plot, you would be guilty too wouldn't
you? There is no logic to what you are saying, roll along troll

interesting they left out his name on the statement from 2012, they must have had an inkling from the initial arrest, he made some pathetic attempt to say he had been framed by a crazed fan, the dirty fúcker, hope he rots

The original statement from the band last year was very curt, they didn't express support for him. It made me taught did they know something odd was going on or did it really come out of nowhere.

The details of this case keep getting sicker and more sordid. In a word, he is vile.

Do the mothers that volunteered their children to him still have custody? I understand that the law is protecting them to keep the children's identities hidden, but I can't understand any parent who would deliberately put their child in harms way at the behest of a dangerous pedophile.

are those mothers in Custody now? will they face prosecution?

There are many more just like him out there with the same mental illness. And some of them may actually want help. But, how could they possibly seek it in a society that makes comments like those in this thread? What person would risk going to their GP and asking for a referral to get treatment for that?

It is a mental illness. One that is shocking and that has devastating effects on children and entire families. But it won't go away by calling it 'evil' and refusing to treat it like the illness that it is.
It's a sad state of affairs, but society's hatred and anger probably actually results in more people offending...people who otherwise would have gotten treatment BEFORE they offended.

I used to think the same as most people in this thread. But then I met someone who worked at a treatment centre for such people (Granada Institute). She's become a friend over the years, we've talked about this topic at length, and I've slowly come around to her way of thinking about it. It's not nearly as black and white as we'd all like to think.

If this isn't evil, then there is no evil in the world, only different mental illnesses.

The jury dodged the bullet on this one. They will be spared a traumatic trial and having to view those videos.
The children were not so lucky.

The scary thing about all this is only for the actual amount of recorded evidence, a good chunk of the population would not have believed this happened and he'd get off scott free with some story about framing celebrities for money.

What happens is 'evil', as in the result but I don't agree that this lad was just born 'evil' with a gene to want to hurt children. I doubt anyone would dream when they are 5,6,7 to grow up and hurt children in this way. So whatever way it developed, it wasn't voluntary imo.
