You can but just get him to do that before you take the bull, safer

Ok, I'll probably do something like that if I bought him, sale pending being passed clear of BVD. If a BVD tag was to be got for him from Mullinahone, then send away to Enfer, it would be at least a wk turnaround wouldnt it be?

not until hes in your herd, we where in the voluntary scheme and git them all tested last year. you could ask the farmer to either do a tag test or a blood test on him, when do you need him for? blood would be slower

No major rush, I do have 6/7 carryover heifers to be done which I'm AIing as I see heats, but I don't mind if they don't go incalf until Jan.

cWhat are the gun control laws like in NZ, Connor?

Pretty good, they licence the person not the firearm so my licence lets me buy any shotgun and rifle up to a certain point and it wasn't too hard to acquire the licence.

Lost a weanling with pneumonia last night. My own fault for not spotting him in time, only copped it yesterday morning. Vexing to say the least!! Have never actually lost one with it before :(

It's not only the value of the animal that is lost but also the hours of work that went into it and the feeding as well - a real shame.

Was the mother a young or bought in heifer? I often wonder is it the low immunity of the mother that causes it.

No, was out of a fairly oldish cow, I wouldnt mind but he was weaned with over a month and you would be thinking you were out of danger for the most part.

True, could he have overheated himself rising on another animal for a day?

Was he outside redz? I think the unseasonably mild weather has a hand to play in it. Look at all the colds and flus doing the rounds with ourselves.
    We
I didn't think pneumonia was a problem with homebred stock. Did you introduce a bought in animal in the last 2 weeks?

Hard luck there redzer, any chance he missed a worm dose? I reckon worm burdens esp lungworm is very high this autumn with the weather being mild and damp. Are you going to vaccinate the rest?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Vaccinated for pneumonia for the first time this autumn. A week later I brought 2 weanlings back from the mart. A few days later both were coughing and over the course of another few days another few were coughing. None got sick though nor got treatment, but it was a nervous time. I reckon the vaccination saved me.

He was in the shed with another 2 weanlings Muckit. We sold their mothers so the 3 of them were weaned together. He could have missed a dose alright blue but couldnt say for sure. Other 2 seem grand, no snots or coughing. Was never really a problem here with weanlings as far back as I can remember, had plenty of young calves get a bout of it alright though after a cold wet night. Dont really want to go down the road of vaccinating to be honest, Id be putting this one down to myself more so than the pneumonia. Completely my own fault for paying no heed to the warning signals. I wont make the same mistake again. He probably wouldnt have got it if he was outside.

I wont dont worry, It wouldnt be the first beast to kick the bucket on my watch and I doubt it will be the last. A bit annoying at the same time though.

He must have a bit of sense . I was talking to a lad that inherited two nice farms and he reckoned he would have been better off if he never saw them

I'm told that in Australia "leaving the faaam to the kids" is considered child abuse. ;)
