As an athiest and secularist, I don't get involved in this Christian/ former pagan festival as I don't want to be a massive hypocrite.

Whats hypocritical about enjoying Christmas as an atheist and secularist ?

I plan on taking the plunge and buying myself a shiny new festivus pole.

Probably not, I have most things I need and just can't muster up an excuse for an ipad.

Won't be treating myself to anything but the kids'll get what they asked Santa for and I'll find something sparkly for the other half.

I started small tradition last year. I get myself a Lego set for Xmas.

Nothing beats having a dinner on Xmas day and then just sit down in front of the Telly and building it.

I am not sure I will be bale to afford bigger set this year. :(

I need a new laptop, but I keep putting it off "When the next generation of chips come out, the laptop I'm looking at will be cheaper", I tell myself. But of course, that's still the case every time a new generation comes out. Might get it for a Christmas pressie to myself.

About the only Christmassy thing on the agenda is to pig out on a massive Stollen cake from Lidl. A kilogram of Marzipan-infused goodness for about €3. :D

Flying home for Christmas, can't wait. There's nothing I really want to treat myself to, will probably spend most of my money on presents (and a few drinks, would be rude not to)

Getting the OH an iPad Air. I'll use it sometimes so I guess it's for me too in a sense.

I don't like getting presents for some reason, I'd derive greater pleasure from giving someone a nice present.

Present guilt, I get it too. The more thoughtful the present the worse it is.

I love the Christmas holidays, I just hate the worry every year regarding having to spend money on gifts etc...myself & my husband haven't given gifts to each other for birthdays or Christmas in many years, our 1 year old doesn't understand Christmas this year (thank god) so it'd just be our eldest to do Santa for....oh and pressies for my husbands brothers kids...rich as bejesus & can't get away with not sending pressies to them...the pressure of spending money is something I hate & wish everyone I knew would agree not to exchange presents outside of immediate family altogether :D
But hey, we seem to struggle through it every year, I know there are people out there in much worse situations unfortunately

...On a lighter note, we get a new addition to the family for Christmas as this is when I am due...so I'll either be treating myself to something simple like putting my legs up to ease the time awaiting labour...treating myself to an epidural or some other form of pain relief...or treating myself to a ring cushion to sit on :D

Would the atheist club kick you out if you were to have a secular meal and piss up on the 25th of December? I'm not religious, but I still like fun.

I am going to treat myself to a refreshing swim in Salthill with hundreds of other like minded people!! I started doing it a few years ago and I have to say it's a fantastic tradition. The craic is mighty down at Blackrock especially. The outpouring of festive cheer is a joy to behold. And loads of money collected for charity too, win-win.

My penis does shrivel up to 1cm and my balls disappear completely but they both re-appear around 4pm!

    :D:P:D:eek::D:D;):D:):):confused:

I am usually exceptionally good to myself for xmas, this year is tough though so won't be getting anything big, tbf I have pretty much everything I need, I have a laptop, ipad, iphone, big telly, PS3 and 360, I have a 3DS as well but I lost it, either that or it walked, being looking for the fecking thing for months.

This year for xmas I want a warm house, I want decent food, no trouble or arguments, lie ins, lazy days and maybe if I can swing it I want to get the last of us for the PS3.

Might be buying myself a new laptop depending on how I'm fixed for money but regardless, still gonna get some nice new festive pyjamas.

I celebrate it as Santa's Birthday - I'm all here for the holidays, the food, drink and having the craic with the family. I don't celebrate it as a Christian holiday but as family time and I'm not too bothered if it makes me a hypocrite - I was largely given the downtrodden Catholic upbringing so by gum I'm getting something back out of it :D
