You obviously didn't just join boards to post about this and you are hiding behind another ID. To quote you " anyone with a brain knows it 100%"
    Why not come out???

I'm not attacking anyone, all I'm saying is that the post about 20 Fire officers' sons or daughters getting the job was complete rubbish!

Nor am I defending anyone, obviously people are going to try and get their sons/daughters a job, wouldn't you????

Obviously their efforts were unsuccessful, certainly to the extent that was posted here.

Of course I would try and get my son / daughter a job. I disagree that they were unsuccessful, Iv been given several names of successful candidates who all have connections in the Dfb/council.

    • There may have been several people successful who have connections with DFB/Council.
    • That is a lot different than the rubbish that was posted here about 20 DFB officers kids getting the jobs! -
    • Maybe those several people that you mention had a good interview and scored very well in the competencies thus deserving the job...

I'd be more concerned about the confined conpetition than the ESCO comp in terms of relatives getting jobs etc...

What is the description behind " confined competition " ? And what does ESCO stand for apologies I'm not well versed on this thing

DFB were meeting with HR today.

Oh really . So should we expect to hear about a medical this aside of Christmas . Thank you for your help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭Arruabarrena

Are you in top 10? If so then possibly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Sf191

I was in the top 15 :-) . Il just sit patiently and hope I hear something soonish :-D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭Arruabarrena

10, 10 then 8. So if you're outside the top 10 then I'd say your medical will be a few months away.

Any idea on when the second class would be going in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭Arruabarrena

Probably 4 months (rough estimate) after 1st class starts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Sf191

Ok . Thanks a lot for your help . If you hear anything else regarding Medicals please post . Appreciated

Does anyone know when we will hear about the medical/physical for the first 10 just wondering will it be before Christmas? ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87 ✭✭david-d

hi guys, i applied and got as far as interview unfortunately wasn sucessful, just wondered if anyone who was successful would they mind posting there age? the reason i ask is i intend to apply next time but i imagine that'll be at the very least 12 months away.. ill be pushing 30 at that stage and wonder if time is against me/ would my age have a negative affect on my application?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭Arruabarrena

Next time wont be for 3 years I'd say. When the 28 successful people move on to become firefighters they'll have to recruit again. Certainly not in 12 months (I'm sorry to say).

    I was successful (top 10) and I'm 30.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 El lugo

Have you heard anything about when the medical/physical is by any chance I haven't got a letter or email for ages now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 HNG12

Haven't heard anything for a couple of weeks but I think we can expect to hear in the next week or so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 El lugo

Do you reckon they would get us in before Christmas to do the tests like the letter said they hope to be starting training in January

Honestly, I don't know. I'd like to think we will have the physical and medical done this side of Christmas but if not sure a few more weeks won't hurt. Did you send back the acceptance letter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Sf191

When were the acceptance forms sent out

Mine was dated the 19 November. I received it on the 22 November. It was just a simple form that was to be signed in one of two places "accept" or "decline"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Sf191

Cheers thanks a lot . Just outside the top ten so 2 or 3 declines would suit me perfect :-)

The new city manager has undertaken some restructuring of the DFB and it's management over the past few weeks. I'm led to believe that this has caused a delay in this process.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Sf191

Did anybody outside the top 10 get a letter of acceptance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 SAFO

Sf191, I think somebody is pulling your chain because nobody gets acceptance letters until medicals, fitness assessments, Garda vetting and other background checks are completed. Only when these have been completed will you be offered a position. Regarding age people 40+ have been employed as firefighters in DFB in the last 10 or so years so david-d you have plenty of time left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 222 ✭✭Arruabarrena

The first 10 have already accepted job offers so I don't know what you're on about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 SAFO

Well it seems I was mistaken if 10 have already received letters regarding provisional offers of employment but you don't have to be rude because you do know "what I was on about".

Myself and close family members have successfully gone through this process so I think I have an idea how it works. And I also know of two people who are in the ten but had not heard that they got their letters.

I just came on here to offer a little bit of encouragement to those whose dream is to become firefighters but that was a mistake. I'm out.

Tell me what was encouraging about the first line of your first post above haha! Didn't mean to be rude, apologies if it came across that way.
