I'm on the controller panel also but I can't see any more people being used from it.I hope I'm wrong though!

Any update here. Did they take in the 28 controllers yet?

    Good to hear.

Hope it's going well. Hopefully won't be to long until they're trained as ff/paramedic.

Have they been updated on that?

No, all they were told on starting was that they will be trained as firefighters paramedics after three years. No update since.

Old thread but have people on the panel been contacted by DCC. My friend was No. 40 on the panel & got a call last month going for medical next week ahead of starting once medical goes ok.

Hopefully good news for a few more who got on the panel.

Great job, don't get me wrong. Bills have to be paid also. Have you the opportunity to move into the role of a fire fighter also?

Yes I agree, bills have to be paid, the salary is an important factor in any role. Its probably less of a factor for myself as I don't have a family to support.
Yes I would certainly look into it, plus there is 3 years there to get more courses / training under the belt!

But if u do have kids it'll matter then. The money is terrible.

Yes again a good point, once you would get to Year 3 it wouldn't be too bad.
To be fair the job I am in at the minute is badly paid and it wouldn't interest me compared to this role!

Is there shift allowances and Sunday premiums etc paid on top of those wages like firefighters??

Yep shift and Sunday allowance on top of basic wage,If I was eligible to apply for the job it would be more than a 50% drop in wage for myself which I could not afford with mortcage etc.
If I was younger and had no major bills I would definitely go for it,The corpo is a job for life my da is working there over 40 years all right the wages might not be good as in the private sector.
A lad that works with my da took a pay cut joining the corpo but the way he sees it is the job security is better than getting paid an extra few quid a week.

A 50% pay cut? I need whatever your job is Donkey!

Ok if your long term goal is to be a firefighter in DFB then take this job for the 3 years maximum as it says and then you may become a firefighter then . It's just the 3 years you'd be on bad pay but if you can deal with the pay then it's worth it.

Do what you got to do to get your dream job.

I wonder what the chances are with progression to FF with this role now given the current actual FF competition thats starting. They should be able to create a large panel from that to cover them for the foreseeable future. I know a couple of people myself who were interested in the role but the salary turned them off unfortunately

Bills to pay and kids myself! But if it's the job you've wanted or stepping stone to firefighter role, why should the money matter!!

    I'd agree with those sentiments.

You all appear to be forgetting that there is also another 10% taken off your gross earnings as part of the Haddington Road agreement for new entrants into the Public Service.

The pension levy also applies if I'm not mistaken.

I think the job is really only suitable for people in their very early twenties. Anybody with financial or family commitments no.

I work in the transport &aviation industry while the money is ok for the work involved,There really is no job security compared to the public sector.
I know this after getting let go back in 08 if you're young and have no commitments then go for the job,By the time you start looking at getting a house etc.
You be well established in the service also the retirement age I was told is 55 so if I was eligible I could only give 15 years service.

Anybody have any idea of how many applicants there are? I would imagine there would be way less for this than for the FF post.
