great for tourism imo, so why not!
I have a daughter that wanted to go to mullingar anyway - just because he is from there. If there is a museum there, then i will definatley take her - she loves him so why not, it would make her happy. I'm sure it would makes thousands of girls happy and i'm sure there are thousands of parents that will oblige - and bring their kids to the museum.
People are always giving out about something - even positive things like this....

Its ok people!!!! you don't HAVE to go to the museum!!! SERIOUSLY!!!
    Calm the F Down.

I'm too old to be following One Direction so I don't know anything at all about them but what items of historical, cultural, artistic would be exhibited in this Museum?

    His outfits from concerts?
    His old toy guitars?
    His communion badge?
Locks of hair from the local barbers?

    Serious question.

We had a Spanish student stay a few weeks with us over the summer. She was obsessed. She knew his address and landed on their doorstep. They tracked his dad down to tescos where his dad worked (I think)where he gave them signed posters niall armed him with.

I find what I've heard by them to be absolutely terrible.

    Lot of jealousy here...
Ah no, it isn't all jealousy/begrudgery (hate that word - overused, and not just Irish people can be begrudgers; plus sometimes what's referred to as begrudgery isn't begrudgery at all!). He's part of a very successful marketing project, that's all. Nothing wrong with him being part of it, and congrats to him, but huge popularity doesn't make the group/project he's part of to be good (the popularity is mostly from little children ffs!)
A museum in honour of part of a marketing project is absolutely cringey.

Stop attempting to be some sort of hipster. Hating conformity.

That's a silly reaction to any sort of music really. Their music is popular for a reason. It's catchy. It's fun. It's nice to listen to. I'm not a fan of theirs by any means, but I see the appeal. Don't be so instantly dismissive of all things popular.
Really dislike this reverse snobbery stuff. If people don't like One Direction, it's just personal preference - it is not dismissal of all things popular.

Doesn't seem to take much for people to get the "hipster" label thrown at them at times.

Cant stand this crap there hardly even born i bet in 1/2 years if there still around you will get a book of there life story in pop music boll*x or will get some stupid life time achievement crap. I mean ffs they already have a film about themselves. They are not artist’s they are a manufactured boy band who have the current look and sound

Heard this idea the other day. What age is he about 20 or something? What has he honestly done to achieve a museum.

They are better than The Beatles so I suppose he deserves a museum. He is a better songwriter than Harrison and McCartney, maybe not Lennon though.

stupidity - should Dublin too then get a Radiators from Space museum ?
would be much more deserved IMO

I would hazard a guess that the main reason he was included in the museum is down to the crowd he will attract in the front door rather than warranting it.

And in fairness, their music can't be too bad if Blondie are doing covers of their songs!!

Think that's more a fashionable anti hipster thing - extremely mainstream being the new cool, all that shyte. I really doubt Blondie actually think they're good!

Only reason it's popular is because they have millions of pre teens and teenage girls buying it, which is only happening because they were on xfactor and drilled into peoples psyches every week on primetime tv for a few months while they were being groomed for fame. Their music really is terrible. I'm not hating on pop music either, I like some pop tracks here and there.

It's not terrible at all though is it, you're clearly letting your dislike of these kids cloud your judgement. Now personally I'm not a fan but it's certainly not terrible.

I'd give my right bollock to be able to write a pop song as well as the ones they perform. I'm sure they've got the best songwriters in the business behind them too and it's paying dividends.

As for the museum idea- embarrassing.

I was attempting a (poor) joke about One Direction's cover of Blondie's One Way or Another but now I'm fearful that Blondie, in turn, done a cover of one of One Directions songs...surely not?

A lot of people genuinely think it is terrible - your opinion that it isn't, won't change that. There's one song I heard by them which I didn't find too bad, due to its catchiness. But anything else I've heard, I found absolutely dreadful.

Haha, I thought you were serious and that Blondie actually were doing a cover of a song by them. Surprised it didn't even shock me. :pac:

    Fail by moi... :o

I don't like them myself but they're not terribly written songs from a musical point of view. Cringe, cheese, pop whatever absolutely but they're not terribly written. They're very effective. Quite sad that the general public still haven't copped on to the "You're a slightly overweight imperfect insecure girl but we love ya anyway" angle.

That aside, that ****ing mess that was released for charity, the Blondie and the Undertones one- Whoever commissioned that needs shooting, disgraceful.

Blondie did indeed do a few 1D covers.

    Crapture
    Heart of Crap
    Sunday Crap
    Hanging on the Crapophone

I think its sadder that teenagers have copped on to it and therefore think they will marry all five of them but I suppose that's how both the band and the museum rely on getting their money - stringing along naive youngsters. :D

I remember it happening to me with Louise Redknapp :( 1995 was a hard year for me...
