12 pubs should be 12 pubs at your own pace and not what is planned for your night out.

That kind of nonsense will only end in tears

    Very true..

We do one every year in work, silly Xmas jumpers and all but its a laugh, you can come along and drink a pint of water at every pub if you like.

There is no pressure on anyone to do anything they don't want to do.

It's all just a chilled out night on the town having a few beers and you drink as much or as little as you like.

Anyone who gets too drunk and rowdy is usually sent home in a taxi for their own good as they won't get into any pubs if they are too drunk anyway.

What happens if some killjoy turns up in a non-festive jumper or dawdles over a pinteroony at one of these things?

Do they get busted down to junior grade first thing Monday morning?

there are ways around those rules,

    a: Drink shandy's Low alcohol = win! :D

b: it only says you have to have a shot, apple sourz are like water (and taste good)

c: likewise it says shot, doesn't say what the shot has to be, "i'll have a shot of water please" oh no that violates the rule 3. If you are caught cheating (i.e. not drinking/drinking a non-alcoholic drink) you must do a shot, "another shot of water please" :pac: *

*Warning this option may turn it into the 12 pub bathrooms of christmas! :P

Outrageous self-determination of your own drinking patterns and clothing?

Can't stand that 12 pubs shíte. I do 2 nights in town. 1 with close pals who I haven't seen in ages (as we've all started to breed!) and another with the missus.

On both occasions we visit pubs that we've socialised in down the years. We talk about old times. Have a laugh. Take in the atmosphere.

I hate sitting in a pub at Christmas and a load a sh!tebags that barely know each other cram in, dictating rules about the night, taking pictures of each other, while being glued to their smartphones

I see plenty of couples out on a night with each other and both glued to smartphones.

Afaik, smartphones aren't just on sale to 12 pub participants.

Why go and not take part. Just dont go.

Its clearly not your thing so why go? If its not for you, then its not for you

I don't go. I drink in pubs where they occur.

Do you need a Powerpoint presentation?

Given that I spent a year thinking 'Kings' was the best game ever, I can't exactly claim the moral high ground.

However, a night out with that many rules and palaver - even aside from the risk of overdoing things - doesn't sound like much fun.

Thank god for the group, we'd never know how to enjoy ourselves at Xmas if it wasn't for the group and their manufactured craic rules.

*post to follow isnt an immature brag of binge drinking as per infraction received before*

12 pints on 6 hours isnt a whole heap is it?

Plus its very easy not to get caught up in shots, just follow the rules :)

Our rules also include a theme fpr wach pub:
    1. First pub is like left hand drinking
    2. Second right hand
    3. No names
    4. No pointing
    5. No toilet
    6. Certain action before taking a drink

And so on, I find it fun and really gets people into the swing of things for the christmas although it is not for everyone which is understandable

A gang of about 20 of us did the 12 pubs in Dublin last year and there were no rules really, we just had a drink in each and after about the 6th pub nobody gave a toss whether you were drinking or what it was you were drinking. I think we got to pub 10 or 11 and just stayed there, a few people were getting messy at that stage. We had a ball. If someone had tried to get us to move again or forced everyone to have a prescribed "pint or short" or whatever in every pub, it would have felt too regimented and less fun. And thats coming from a guy who likes his beer.

no toilet? how does that work,do you just piss yourself where you're standing for the craic?

Well it works cause the majority of people can hold their piss? If they want to piss then it's at the expense of a shot. Simple

Plus there rules and not surprises so the ones with an IQ of 60 and above go in pub 4

Sometimes I wouldn't be able to hold it after a few pints. These rules are nonsense.

The ones with an IQ of 60 and above would go for a piss and tell you to piss off if you told them they had to have a shot.

So at the end of the night you are covered in vomit and your own urine? Noice.

Have done it a few times. The first ones were a good laugh, starting at about 3pm, having dinner in the middle, nobody rushing too much, and no rules.

If anyone wanted to skip a drink no one cared. No one wore any jumpers with lights on them and everyone had a laugh.

Bringing rules in and forced 'zaniness' have really taken the fun out of it, for me. Plus now you have so many groups cramming into the same bars that it becomes difficult to really enjoy the day.

Haven't done a 12 pubs the last couple of years and I don't think I'll be doing one this year.

This is the most sensible post of the thread imo.

Nothing wrong with going on tour and all enjoying yourself at the pace you all enjoy yourself at. Fúck the jumpers and all carrying on like a herd of sheep on a stag night.

Who is going to enforce the rules ? Anyone that tried to enforce them on me after a few pints would be well fit for a headbutt !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 894 ✭✭✭cian68

can't you enjoy yourself in the pace you like while in a silly jumper? I don't own a christmas jumper but they seem inoffensive enough. Would be tempted by a reasonably priced one.

6 litres of beer in 6 hours is fairly timid if you have raging alcohol abuse problem.

Exactly, it's easy enough to do a fun relaxed non regimented 12 pubs. Who cares if someone in the group wants to skip one or two as long as they're having a good time.

The route is key the though imo. Stay away from packed central locations imo, everywhere usually has a good pre Christmas buzz so no need go places that are heaving.

    Organised fun. Boo.

They've been open again ages. Not sure how long because I don't remember it closing. Was certainly open as of last Sunday.
