    http://www.independent.ie/lifestyle/men-are-more-likely-to-have-samesex-experiences-29749603.html

I'm usually loathe to reproduce anything by the Indo but in this instance it was a poll of 1,000 people so therefore statistically significant.

Results show that 13% of Irish men in their thirties have slept with another man. For Irish men in their 20s that rises to 25%, one in every four.

The poll doesn't specify exactly what is meant, it just says that 25% of Irish men in their 20s have had a sexual encounter with another man. I suppose in theory that could cover men who have had threesomes with another man and a girl.

Still though pretty surprising results, you big pack of dirty dogs !

It brings to mind Patrick Kavanagh and his "wink and elbow language of delight" from Inisjeen Road.

The immaturity and sniggering of Irish people with regard to homosexuality knows no boundaries and still thrives

If a telephone pollster asked you if you had slept with another man and you hadn't why would you lie about it ? What is there to be gained ?

It's more likely that people who have slept with the same sex would lie about it and deny it than likely that the other way around IMO.

While only six per cent of Britons define their sexual orientation as homosexual or bisexual, more than twice that number (13 per cent) of Britons have had some form of sexual contact with someone of the same sex.

Sixteen per cent of women have had sexual contact with another woman, while 10 per cent of men have had sexual contact with another man.

It seems that much of this can be attributed to youthful sexual experimentation as 23 per cent of the 16-24 age group have had sexual contact with someone of the same sex.

Does that mean 25% of them work for RTE ?

I find these figures absurd....think about your male group of friends can you really imagine 1/4 have slept with a man. I don't believe these stats.

I wonder when my time to sleep with a man is. Today, tomorrow, next week?

And will I be pitching or catching?

It says 'same sex experience'. That could be anything from another dude hitting on you to playing hide-the-sausage.

    Lies, damned lies, and statistics.

That's not been a gender specific course of action since the 50s to be fair.

Crikey, in the last 40 years, homosexuality has gone from being illegal to immoral to tolerable to acceptable to legal. Ye don't mind if I might leave before it becomes compulsory.

Ah no, nothing against it myself however I do apply the same rule to it as I do to Fair City : As long as I don't have to watch it, pay for it or participate in it, then I've no problem.

Yes, how dare anyone mock some ball of shìte survey by some rag newspaper and a crap radio station. The one or two people getting up on their high horses about this crap is what's immature.

The figures are hardly surprising when you drill down into them (I've read the full survey in last weeks Sunday Independent), and a couple of same sex experiences does not a gay man nor lesbian woman make!

I don't see any issue here tbh, you think some silly survey of 1,000 people purporting to be representative of Irish opinion warrants serious discussion?

That's about as valid as saying a couple of people having a laugh about a ridiculous statistic and how it's interpreted, is representative of Irish people's attitudes to sex.

Well speaking as a lesbian trapped in a handsome mans body..................

suppose theres 2 fellas banging one chick.
Without even having to stretch the meaning of the question, the 2 fellas are both having a sexual encounter involving another man despite having a chick in between.

Lies lies and damn vague questions.

Seems like a deliberately open ended (ohh err) question designed to produce as sensationalist and inflammatory a result as possible.

The stat of 25% of 20 something olds in Ireland having a sexual encounter with another man is pretty consistent with the stats from the Guardian survey in the UK which found that 23% of 16-24 year olds in the UK have done the same.

Just because none of your mates haven't told you they've been with another man doesn't mean it hasn't happened. When you think about it they are a lot more likely to tell an anonymous telephone pollster than they are to tell one of their friends, especially if their friends display any signs of homophobia.

The survey also says much higher numbers in urban areas have experimented with the same sex than have in rural areas so that plays a part too.

3somes and group sex would count. Thought it would be higher than 25%
