    ..
I for one, wouldn't bother going back just for that saving.
But, you went to Tesco anyway and spent €210

    What a joke!

There's no way the same shop in Aldi/Lidli would have been anyway close to that.
Tesco must think their customers are all thick.

It is a marketing con job plain and simples, Tesco have made their customers believe that they are comparing most of the main shopping items and that they are mostly on a par with the germans but the facts are totally different.

They only compare a limited number of items and most people will only have a handful of those items in their basket/trolley. tesco are also comparing special offer prices which is misleading.

Yeah, Tesco con job their customers all the time.

    (1) Highly selective price comparisons on shelfs. Misleading.
    (2) Price trickery. Hike the price but 'discount' it back to the normal price, then remove the 'discount'.
    (3) Frequently allow their big industry suppliers to reduce the size of products but yet Tesco keep the price the same.
    (4) Lots of physiological pricing games.
    (5) This misleading promotion.

With Aldi/Lidl there is none of this infuriating nonsense.

Are you claiming aldi & lidl force the likes of cadburys & mars to keep the same size bars in production? or are you suggesting they reduce the price and keep the same old price per kilo?

I really wish aldi & lidl did learn more of tescos marketing tactics, then they could afford to give me better offers, subsidised by the overpaying idiots who fall for them.

I only shop there whens it suits.
The point I was making was I wouldn't go back just to save cents off my next bill.

Yep. No way the vast majority of Tesco own brand (the Vallue range?) compare with the quality of comparible Lidl/Aldi items. They are shocking. At least the Super Valu ones are actually of decent quality.
Shoppers know this and it's why they're flocking to them in their droves and deserting Tesco. Only trump card Tesco have (for me) is their vast range and good offers on many things. On everything else the discounters leave them standing. The latest effort is a long line in ther series of con-jobs they have conjured up. I remember the one in 2008/09 as the recession struck. Lasted about 6 months then was quitely abandoned.

It strikes me, that the biggest pr disaster Tesco could do, is to start giving 10's of euro back to customers.

That would only highlight how over expensive they are against the German giants.

Better to give a few cent here and there, give shoppers the false sense of security that they're really not going to achieve much savings heading to Aldi.

Great gimmick though. But only for the non savvy and naive.

You got ripped off in both.
    You should've bought these ones

You need to hone your bargain skills, I expected better of you!

Bought a couple of bags of these recently.

The potatoes in them are tiny, spent ages peeling them for the dinner.

Won't be getting them again, they're not worth it.

Everything is a scam with Tesco.

Lidl's in store bakeries have been a master stroke in my opinion. Decent quality bread freshly baked (comes in frozen I'm sure, but don't they all) at very good value prices and very presentable.
Also their Delux range is very good quality. I was always a big Aldi fan over Lidl but Lidl seemed to have copped on again lately. Shopped there this week and I noticed they had less branded stuff and more of their own such as the Delux range on offer; this is what people want and go there for. Not to buy branded stuff I can get in Dunnes ot Tesco on offer for less

Another attempt from Tesco to stop the flood of shoppers moving to Lidl/Aldi.
If you manage to work out you have been overcharged and that won't be easy, you will get Tesco vouchers which you have to spend in Tesco so the turnover in Tesco will increase.
IMO it won't make a bit of difference.

Yep. Not a hope. The dam has burst now! Look at the Aldi "Swap and Save" promo. No gimics, just lower prices and good quality food.

Everyone is shopping in Aldi/Lidl now and their penetration is huge. Kilkenny city where I live has 2 Aldis/2 Lidls. Small towns of circa 2-3,000 have an Aldi or Lidl or both. Their model is pretty low cost allowing them to expand rapidly, mopping upTesco's customers along the way ( I think they are worst affected as Super Valu are noted for quality food/convenience local). Tesco don't know what they are so come up with half baked ideas to try win back customer. What they actually need is a high quality own brand range for a very good value price. At the moment there's is a very feeble attempt and inferior. And customers know that.

Tesco Extra Naas has a scratch bakery. All your tiger bread and most others are baked fresh in the morning from scratch. All made there.
There is also a good few superquinn and super value scratch bakers. That employ real skilled bakers.

^^^ Oh wow, I really miss real bread. Superquinn is just too far out of my way for bread.

I got €7 this week too, you can use the voucher against SMA 3, which was a surprise, so happy with that.

I was in Lidl today and normally there would be a few cars there at that time around 2.00pm but the carpark was packed and the shop mobbed, all the checkouts were open and there were lineups.
Ive been going there years but i have never seen it this busy, finally people seemed to have copped on.

Same scenario at Aldi, Newlands cross yesterday 5pm too.

I've noticed a rise in Chelsea tractors/mercs/beakers in the car park too, with lots of yummy mummies inside.

    Lots of them?

Something that Ive noticed in the last while increasingly in Aldi is the phenomenon of neighbours chit-chatting. The type of thing that the mother-in-law would be an olympic champion at - bumping into the neighbours and taking 20 minutes to get down an aisle in the more traditional supermarkets. Good for them.

    16 Paracetamol in Tesco UK - 19p - approximately 23 cent.

    http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=257107498

Why are they not on sale here? (Saw them once a few years ago in one Tesco but they were gone a couple of days later).

(I'm not blaming Tesco, I assume this is some Irish licensing issue)

Tesco 3l milk now costs €2.45 and €1.69 for the 2l.

They need to be IMB licenced. Why they've not done so is a different question.

In the UK, the list of medicine items a supermarket can sell is huge and contains the bulk of pharmacy-only drugs from here as well as some prescription-only drugs. Something I stock up on in Asda any time I'm passing by.

Did some shopping today in Tesco portloaise (very big one), and to be honest came away less than impressed; What's this 3 for 2 rubbish going on with toileteries? I don't want that, I want things on Half-Price like Dunnes and Supervalu/Quinn.
Was planning to buy some Xmas stuff as well but again the offers were not as good as the others so i'm just going to wait and buy them in Dunnes or S.Valu. Selections boxes 2 for €6- they were €2 in Superquinn earlier in week!!. Why throw away your money? I expected far better as usually Tesco is very good for these offers.

My mam has recently started shopping in aldi/lidl, she's in it about 5 times a week now because she just can't get over the prices and tells everyone!

This week she bout 4 cans of cider (Taurus one was in the Sunday times highly rated?) bag of carrots, onions, turnip, muffins, tomatoes, bananas, porridge and something else. It came to €11, she's still in shock

Was in Tesco in Coonagh, Limerick on Friday and went for one of those meal deals (one main, two sides, one dessert) for a tenner. The use of the price stickers did not make the choice easy or what I wanted.

So suffice to say, Tesco in their infinite wisdom are driving the customers away to Aldi and Lidl. Some bright spark with a degree in marketing making some rather delicious decisions especially this price comparison.

Well done to that man or woman, you made my mind up. The German discounters here I come.

I got an email from Tesco today saying I would've saved 4.99 in lidl if I'd shopped their so they sent me a voucher code.
If only Lidl and Aldi had online shopping!

Aldi/Lidl have their own higher class range now as well "Specially Selected/Deluxe" which are directly comparable to those Tesco Finest things so no need to compromise on quality either.
