Horror upon horrors, I haven't spent any time with 1.6 vanilla. Not even a horse have I found! Are there any big game-changers in 1.7?

new world gen and biomes, fishing has been made more interesting with new fish, fishing rod enchants and chance to catch loot like enchanted books, leather, boots, lily pads. Thats pretty much it apart from some new blocks, water breathing potion, commands and such

i havnt played minecraft in a while but when i try join the boards server now i get this message
"Failed to connect to the server. Internal exception:java.io.IOException: an establised connection was abortef by the software in your host machine"

anyone any idea what this means?

Erm, well usually, I would update java and make sure your have your launcher profile set up to 1.6.2 as the server hasn't been updated.

Still no luck? Usually just back up saves and reinstall

I wanted to go on it, but with 1.6 so near I dont want to be disappointed when I build something elaborate only for it to be demolished a few days later.

I really wanna play but im only starting on the server so i dont know if theres any point with new release being so close?

Just a quick question aswell,being new to the server i was wondering about ore generation. Got on and as you do as a fresh spawn set up a hovel and start mining,on my first trip down and quickly making iron tools i got to level 12-15(Gotta love strip mining:P)and have to say i found an awful lot of diamonds! 26 before i got a full inventory and had to head back up,and after re supplying headed back down and got another 30:) I seemed to pick up a lot of other ores along the way aswell,am i just lucky or are the ores less rare? Custom generation?

Also it looks like a lot of people are going to be playing again if/when the update is released so does anybody wanna maybe do a server/community task eg build a spawn area,build a machine shop,farms,bees etc etc

Certainly dont claim to be the best builder but i could help with mining gathering etc

The world gen is a bit odd and there seems to be no rarity of certain ores like diamond and iron.
Makes starting off a lot easier.

I don't know how long it will be till the next ftb launcher but as mira says probably a couple of weeks. You can certainly reach 'end game' by then.
I'd be up for getting a spawn area built when the map resets. Need some creative types to get on board too mind.

Yeah I like the ore gen being a little higher, gathering early game for ftb takes so long, and ive done it about 10 times at this stage!!
Got so many diamonds I reckon ill be skipping bat box and going straight to MFE.
Ive found the worst thing about restarting is thaumcraft research, hard to go back to tools after using the wands:(

Cool well ill play on the current server then and see how far I can get, and hopefully get some project going on the new server if/when it happens

I imagine you've updated and that's the problem. The server is still running the previous version of Minecraft. Go back to that and you should be fine.

I dont mind the research per say, considering how powerful some if the items you get are, just a pain to have to do it all again:(

Ye ive never had lag on the server before yesterday, to be honest with the amount that goes on on a ftb server im surprised it doesnt happen more often!!

For the worse, I'd say. Run out of aspects? Hope you've got crystal clusters or enjoy endlessly hunting for nodes! The research system has always been the weakest part of Thaumcraft and it still hasn't been worked into something that's not either monstrously resource-heavy or just a general pain in the ass to use.

Considering the items you can create, why would you expect it not be resource heavy? The added risk is part of the fun.
From what ive seen on youtube, everyone seems to be having a tonne of fun with thaumcraft 4.

How about a map reset to 1.7? Would anyone log on even then?

Usually many people log on after a map reset, at least for a week or so. But, as said in other posts, there is no development OR recommended build of CraftBukkit for 1.7.2 which means no server update.

I've no problem with the requirements to make items being resource heavy but the research system is still poorly implemented, imo . If you've never used Thaumcraft 2 then I can see why you misconstrued my "resource heavy" comment. That was the whole reason Azanor made the research system as interactive as it is now.

Popping items in the quaestium for a couple of percent chance to get a theory while it researched automatically was not fun.

As far as I'm aware, yes. Also FTB is a little confusing so I'm not sure on a tutorial but if you go here you can just look through the mods that way and decide what you'd like to do.
